I could say "deal cocaine" but even by the 1990's the market was totally saturated and there was a surplus of dealers chasing a limited market despite the fact that the price of coke had fallen by 50% since, say 1975. In Vancouver a "Saturday Night Date gram" was $150 and by 2000 it was $75 Canadian. I knew a lot of coke dealers from various gyms and so I knew this despite not being a coke user myself. But back then you needed your saturday night date gram to get laid. Not a particularly pleasant period of social history frankly. It would be trite to suggest some union job like the longshoremen's union or elevator repair union since those flipped overnight from being a preserve of insider anglo early stage (1945-46 birth) to young sikh immigrants given to using whisky with speed regularly. I've also noticed that engineering, at least in Canada sucks ass particularly civil and mech eng. One grad had to go back and do nursing just to earn a living. If you're Compu Sci perhaps a tool and die maker course would be a good choice and your computer sci course units would let you get through the schooling faster.

Students and graduates need to become far more self dependent. I think this is a very liberal thing when they expect that as long as they have finished something or have some papers on something, that they are automatically entiteled to the first job they apply on and demand $200k salary. In some fields you need to apply for shit, but in tech I honestly dont understand why they dont focus more on being a freelance or start their own company. You might have a class with 50 grads who know each other extremely well after all the years they have studied together. So why dont they just get together after graduation, start a company together and then go for it? It would be the best option for all of them by far, and this is also what the future will look more and more like. Tech jobs and a ton of other studies will require you to be more self sufficient and take more responsibility of your own life rather than some company. When I read that people might apply for 150-200 jobs and not even get an answer, I honestly think its time to take a different route to get money.

A lot of newly grads can't code worth a shit, even with using AI. Companies are always hiring. The only difference now is that instead of getting 3 months to prove yourself, you get 3 days because you're expected to use AI to do most of the heavy lifting, and if you aren't producing in your first week, you're fired.

Even if you have some material wealth the deck is very stacked against you dating-wise. Just being real.
