Did this take some amount of time? Sure. But those Nazis weren't able to offer any resistance during all that. The only reason the Russians didn't just incinerate them instantly with fire and be done with it is because they were cowering behind human shields. That's all there was to it. I don't think in this case its a matter of human shields, but the Ukrainians in that pocket are similarly contained and time is on the Russians' side but not on theirs. The Russians are getting food, medicine, and all that stuff, but the Ukrainians in that pocket are not. The Russians can afford to keep this dragged out, but they can't. The fact this has lasted as long as it has means they must have had a lot of supplies stashed away, but however much that is its not infinite. Everyone needs to eat.

It doesn't matter as it is only delaying the inevitable. Instead of taking it in a month, Ukraine managed to delay them so that now they'll take it in a few more months instead. The end result is still the same.
