You can use decimals with the US Customary units. 8.4 pounds is a legitimate weight. 10.001" is a legitimate length. There is no rule or law that precludes decimals in the US system. The metric System uses Kelvins for temperature not Celsius. Water does not freeze at 0 K but at 273.15 K. In short the Metric System is useful but not the only thing that works.
