>>524420012It kind of made sense in early America when we had a huge undeveloped landmass and basically just wanted to throw people at the frontier to build it up as quickly as possible. By the end of the 19th century though we observed that this led to outrageous inequality and consolidation of wealth and power into the hands of a few people (trusts), which we had to tamp down because it was getting so bad that we were afraid there was going to be a communist revolution. Once the Soviet Union was on its way out though we perceived that threat to have passed and started rolling back the reforms we made to address this (neoliberalism), which is how we've ended up with Gilded Age inequality and infinite precarity again. But this time it's even worse because we've exported most of the means of production and imported lots of brown people, such that labor now has even less leverage and is structurally divided along ethnic lines

Social media desensitizes and radicalizes even moderates into believing heinous and abhorrent behavior is acceptable under the correct context. Spend just 5 minutes on Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, you will find hordes of these deranged people. They exist among us. The FBI knows about them but never acts until it is far too late. Western society is on a one-way fast track to collapse as long as social media continues to destroy minds and decay the culture.
