The factors that are mixed in are the jury and in some cases impact statements (there was a case where a kid killed his twin sister, claimed he was “sleep walking” which I do not buy at all btw, and he plead “not guilty”. He was facing 30 or more years for the slaying, but the kids dad made a statement requesting the judge to show leniency, and the judge knocked the sentence down to 15 years, for example)It’s complicated
