All countries in the world are built to support the amount of people currently in them plus a small buffer for future growth. This buffer stays proportional to the population as it grows. If the kim dynasty collapsed tomorrow and somehow north korea decided to surrender to the south, that surrender would likely be rejected because the flood of migrants would overwhelm the infrastructure and the buffer to an extent that could cause collapse or significant decreases in quality of life. South Korea does not want unification because it is not in their national interest. It has nothing to do with race or ideological reasons. The current situation works well for them which is why you will never, ever see a south Korean leader try to open a unification dialogue with the north no matter how favorable or lopsided the situation becomes.
