A breakfast plate (3 eggs, bacon toast) and coffee cost me $3. Rent, even in Tokyo, is like $500/mo for a 1 bedroom in most residential areas (not counting expensive neighborhoods like Ginza or Roppongi Hills). 1100 JPY is like $10/hr, which is low, but wages are typically higher in Tokyo and you can get by on that. I make around $180k/year and felt like a baller.

Their standard of living is lower than the US by a wide margin. Japanese food is cheap but foreign food is more expensive. Eating out is common. Japan has the same number of restaurants as the US, but 1/3 the population. Medical care in Japan is much worse than the US, both in terms of quality and promptness. That said, its easy to land a job and start a family, if you dont mind your wife being a former slut with a high bodycount that wont fuck you anymore after having a child. Their birthrate issues are cultural more than economic. Giving every Japanese person a mansion and a $300k/year job wouldn't fix their birthrate.
