On 27 December 1942, in a Partisan hospital, the Ustaša war criminal Jure Francetić died after villagers stabbed him with pitchforks and farm forks, following the forced landing of his airplane near their village.On 22 December 1942, Francetić set off by airplane on a new assignment to Lika, where he was supposed to take command of the Ustaša and Home Guard units stationed there. The aircraft was piloted by Home Guard ensign Mijo Abičić. Due to a malfunction, they were forced to land near the village of Močile, close to Slunj, which was in territory controlled by the Partisans. Francetić and his pilot were immediately captured by the Partisans, but they could not protect them from local villagers, who stabbed them with pitchforks and farm forks. Severely wounded, Francetić was transferred to a Partisan hospital, where surgeons attempted to save his life so that he could be exchanged for 100 captured Partisans, but they were unsuccessful. Francetić died on 27 December 1942.
