Obviously, allowing the order to exist was a mistake by the Pope. They were consumed by the pride of the Age of Enlightenment. Rather than accepting the teaching of Christ to Come to Him as Children, the preached they could know it all (like Aquinas did before them). They took great pride in their schools and making rebuttals to the protestants. Their schools cost money so they fell to greed. They even resorted to the sin of sacrilege and using the Sacrament of Confession as blackmail material. When a book was published they didn't deny that they violated the sacrament, they asked who published the book that exposed him, knowing it was one of their many blackmail victims. They went on to "spread the word" to India, Japan and China.... they were more successful than other orders because they changed the faith, and the Holy Mass, to suit the local pagan beliefs. When the Church found out they corrupted the mass... they were almost all excommunicated and declared anathemas. Instead, they undermined the vatican itself.
