For a lot of sunni muslims, visiting Mecca (by going on Hadj), is of very high importance. That travel is not cheap.
While there is Mecca, they will have place where to visit, and spend their savings. Which will limit their options to go to other places. Like Australia.

If Mecca gets glassed, then part of those who were saving for like 5 years to go on Hadj, they instead will have those savings to go on other places.

There is some utility for Western civilizations to keep Mecca safe. As it works as kinda containment area for zealous muslims.
