I am currently experiencing the worst flu I've had in all my life. What is going on? Is this the beginning a second pandemic?

Wife had it for a week but it changed a lot. 103 degree fever and nausea gave way to lower temps and body aches, then finally cough and lots of snot. On her last day, I started a sore throat. Merry Christmas to us.

I had was laying supine in my bed just focused on breathing for 11 hours because I was certain if I fell asleep I'd die. I got covid 4 months later and it was a fucking joke. Just lost my sense of taste for a bit.The flu is by far still the most dangerous virus out there.
