this isn't the first problem with maven. it already completed its main mission like a decade ago and now they're just squeezing some extra work out of it by using it as a comms relay. about 4 years ago they were having issues with its navigation so they put it in safe mode for a couple months then switched it over to tracking its position by the stars rather then rely on its failing gyroscopes.
