the gold:silver mining ratio is 1:8 but the value ratio is still over 1:50
historical gold:silver ratios have ranged from 1:3-1:15
judging the gold exchange value of baskets of goods against historical benchmarks, gold is well within its historical value range. I've seen some people arguing that it's overvalued due to Chinese/Indian stockpiling but that just doesn't check out when you start looking at real numbers instead of just speculating based on what you see in the media.

a purely rational price range for silver would be ~$300-600.
