"Tax the rich" is a slogan that primarily appeals to those who know little about economics, aka socialists. But who qualifies as rich? And why are they wealthy? Typically, the rich are rich because they own companies that provide goods and services everyone uses. If you tax the owner of an oil company, for instance, the price of oil will ultimately rise for all consumers.
