For a tip, if you're living in a backpack you don't want ultralite crap. You get use to carrying a ton of weight if it's not too much, my pack is probably edging towards 40lbs due to the rocks but I've been able to walk 60 miles straight with it on more than a few times out in Nevada and north California. Because I was homeless for 5 years I was able to learn how to survive in an urban and rural environment both without being spotted, leaving traces of my existence, and securing all my needs without other people involved. I recommend this to anyone, it will be the only way you learn how to survive if shit does hit but you won't have time for such an easy experience gain. I've been to venezuela too, if I was in your situation I would live off a horse and keep to the mountains around Chile.Here's how it will always go no matter the situation: people will be willing to help and be friendly and try to start communities and shit to get by for the first few years.
