When I would try to ask other questions or give contextual hints to assist him further in acquiring the answer he also had no clue and it became abundantly apparent that he had no timeline of basic history as far as what years things happened in to base an answer off of.Now you might have wondered if maybe I had been asking him tough questions, but no I was asking him basic geography questions like “what is the Capitol of the state of Kansas”. Then I had asked him to find a point and click where each state on the us map is quiz and he did find one, but instead of taking his time to really pinpoint each question and answer he just randomly started rapidly firing at the screen until he got the right answer. It took him 120 clicks to guess all 50 states. Afterwards, I showed him me completely dominating the quiz like I would have easily done when I was his age. Now you might be thinking that this kid is a mouth breathing retard, but no his grades are actually straightA’s and B’s and both of his parents are smart people.

I think we need to bring back phonics, rote memorization, written tests, and oral examinations to show that a student has demonstrated the ability to recall information and recite it in ways that demonstrate that he can think for himself and recall a process or history without having to reference external sources. School should be tough and anguishing so that we can discover the best minds for learning things quickly and demonstrating the ability to adapt in a hurry. There’s definitely something going on that has made elementary education far worse than what it was when I was in school.
