Any empire that arrived would still have filled the tropical regions with African slaves, and they simply wouldn't have had enough men or resources to subdue all the native populations. Those natives continued resisting the Spanish for centuries after initial contact, and even today indigenous communities protest against our governments and demand gibs. Anyway, I'm part black, so it doesn't particularly bother me, but yes, I suppose it would have been better... though it would have required bringing in massive numbers of immigrants. Moreover, most of Latin America isn't suited to the kind of large scale European settlement, it was simply impossible for the population to grow rapidly under those conditions. You can't grow wheat in tropical areas.
