One would presume this is what happened with Trump. I've heard supporters of his try to spin it as a qanon thing, where Trump "went deep undercover to take down the pedophiles, and he was only fucking the kids to stop the kids from getting fucked", all of the usual copes, but in the real world people become FBI informants because they were parts of the crime.
