The big radicalizing events have been over a generation, those being the Soviet Afghan War, the 1st Gulf War, US Afghan War, and 2nd Gulf War. Those were the wars breeding new insurgents. When Iraq 2 began to wind down the Syrian Civil War absorbed a large majority of the talent, whether into ISIL or the Nusra Front. ISIL getting fucked up in Iraq and Syria meant a lot of the big brain jihadis were killed. I don't think it's over, I just think the talent pool has shrunk so significantly that there aren't many people left that are capable of running large operations or cells in Europe or the US without being sniffed out by Intel agencies.
