I'd have to think about what the total quantities are, but you can estimate the *specific* kinetic energy quite easily; if the terminal velocity is 4000 m/s, then there's 8 MJ/kg. That might work out to a few gigajoules in total, since I think we're talking about total projectile masses of tens or hundreds of kilograms.

It's to demonstrate that the Oreshnik strike destroyed, or badly damaged, that big gas storage facility or something like it.

If they add up to 1000 kg, that's 8 GJ in total, assuming terminal speed is 4 km/s. Mind you, that's just the kinetic energy of the submunitions; you have to do considerably more work than that.

Reentry vehicles are old technology; the Russians could just take some existing model of RV and put it on the front end. They might actually get improved performance that way, since they can reduce the necessary throw-weight.

Mechanical work. You have to accelerate everything - there's a lot more than just the warheads - to several kilometers per second, for example.

>>525499068
What I said - I have the distinct advantage of actually knowing what the fuck I'm talking about - is that HGVs use boosters very similar, if not identical to, what is found on ballistic missiles to accelerate to maximum speed, after which they *glide.*

>>525499294
The terminal velocity is less than what it otherwise might be, since you lose some speed due to drag. Some of that energy heats up the submunitions. That's not a significant factor, though. Also, in general, there might be an explosive filler. You might say there's no point, since the specific energy of high explosives is much less than the kinetic energy - which is true - but what you'd do is you'd use the filler as a burster charge, to split the submunition into many small projectiles some distance above the ground in order to get a shotgun effect.

>Russians could just take some existing model of RV and put it on the front end
Of an Oreshnik? If they did that then those RVs would simply melt. Oreshnik travels so quickly that its outer shell heats up to nearly the temperature of the sun's surface due to air friction during terminal approach. Did you never listen to monkey explain all this after the initial test? You seem to be under some retarded illusion that Oreshnik is just another "fast" missile. Because that's wrong, nigga.

Anyway, Russia already has a nuclear IRBM: RS-26 Rubezh (of which Oreshnik is a significant evolution).

3) He never posting something related to /chug/, always seeing imaginary muslims. Usually AI generated or stolen images he claims are places he's been or things he's eaten.
4) Pseudo-friendly baiting for (you)s ("what games are you playing?", "what music do you listening to?" etc).
5) Specific vocabular (chippie, paliniggers, palestinian kids, mogging, zutt, etc).
6) Pedo tendencies, posting dead naked kids.
7) Changing his id when he's exposed as gujirati shitskin pizdabol.
8) Flexing his "wealth".
9) Propensity towards finding stray cats to rape.

I didn't say they couldn't maneuver. What I said was that the DF-ZF in particular shows no indication that it has *terminal homing capability.* That is, there's no evidence of, for example, a dielectric fairing covering some sort of radar antenna, which means it doesn't have any capability to, say, home in on a ship. That's not to say such a thing is impossible - just that none of the available DF-ZF images is consistent with this capability.

You can still strike fixed targets, like island bases, or make evasive maneuvers, whether preprogrammed or at random. You just can't image a target with radar in real time to home in on it in this particular case.

The Oreshnik follows projectile motion. Leaving aside the effects of atmospheric drag, the warheads it throws will have the exact same speed as those of any other ballistic missile flying to a given range with a trajectory taking a certain flight time. This - since the range is rather short, at only 1750 km - is rather less than the terminal speed of ICBM reentry vehicles.

There'll be shock waves in the air; I'm not sure if you can get shockwaves in a solid medium at all, or if they'd arise in this case.

You would couple energy into the ground and it would propagate as a wave through the ground for some distance before dissipating, but I don't think it's a shockwave.

Yes, but it's technologically perfectly possible. Mind you, the resulting nuclear-tipped IRBM would probably be considered to be something else, as opposed to merely an Oreshnik with a different front-end.

>He says the reentry vehicles reach temperatures of over 4,000c and compares to the surface of the sun of 5,500-6,000c so my recollection is a bit off there.

That's probably a representative stagnation temperature or something like that; it's the temperature of the flow the warheads encounter on reentry. I don't really feel like talking about heat transfer rn, though...

There have been proposals to use reusable rockets - such as might be otherwise used as orbital launch vehicles - for point-to-point transportation, but that's a very different kind of vehicle from an Oreshnik.

>>525501162
I know they're evolutionary relatives. The point is that adapting the RS-26 to carry conventional submunitions is reversible; you might adapt the Oreshnik by swapping out the front end to deliver a larger weight of warheads over a somewhat shorter range than the RS-26. Failing that, you might make up the difference by putting a bunch of penetration aids (countermeasures) on the Oreshnik.

>penetration aids
>speed
Depends on the flight phase. The Oreshnik is mostly a fairly ordinary IRBM; it does just the same thing in the midcourse phase of flight as any other long-range ballistic missile. You would carry penetration aids as a matter of course to frustrate midcourse interception.

>plasma envelope
Leaving aside the actual effect on the radar cross-section of the submunitions, this is ony relevant in the last few seconds of flight, during the endoatmospheric phase.

>Like holy shit do you think a Patriot or even THAAD would be able to take down Oreshnik warheads?
Patriot wouldn't. THAAD is the kind of thing you have to be able to deal with, though; I think it can attempt midcourse intercepts against IRBMs. That's why you carry chaff and radar decoys and so on.

Most countermeasures/penetration aids don't work in the terminal phase, by the way; they're very light, so when you hit the atmosphere, they decelerate much faster than the dense and streamlined warheads. This is called "drag discrimination."

>As in: defeating the entire purpose of Oreshnik's existence.
It can't be ruled out. I will find and watch the interview, though.

Also, even if there aren't any current systems capable of stopping the thing, or the capability of existing systems is in doubt, you've got to future-proof.

Also, leaving aside Patriot and THAAD, the interceptors for Aegis Ashore might have the necessary kinematics. There's more than that when it comes to determining whether or not you can intercept things, though.

I'm no expert either, but I consumed as much info about Oreshnik as I could when the first launch happened because it made such an impression. And three things were mentioned by the Russians several times in text and interviews:
1. Russian scientists needed to make breakthroughs in materials science to create a coating for the warheads that can resist the high temperatures experienced during the terminal phase.
2. Russia developed a non-nuclear IRBM specifically so they have a non-nuclear fast response option. They WANT everyone to know and TRUST that Oreshnik is incapable of having nuclear warheads to avoid a nuclear response due to a misunderstanding.
3. And of course monkey CLAIMED that Oreshnik and its warheads are too fast for any ground-launched NATO interceptor to take them out. The latter, of course, still needs to be tested.

If anyone can find a Russian MSM source that says this info is now outdated then by all means, please share.

Whether or not the interceptors can achieve fast enough burnout speeds to be able to fly out to sufficient altitudes fast enough, for example, is one thing; whether or not the kill vehicles can successfully identify the warheads and maneuver to hit them is another matter. It's pretty easy to frustrate attempts at midcourse interception, but you do have to use penaids; otherwise, the defender has just a handful of targets, and he knows they're all real warheads. With penaids, you can easily present the defender with hundreds of plausible-looking targets, most of which are fake. Those Iranian missiles almost certainly carried penaids - they're a pretty easy technology - by the way.

You seem to know what you're talking about, and more important, knows the limit of what you know.

This guy you're talking to is annoying, a few months ago he decided to insist "Hypersonic Gliding Vehicles can't maneuver at all" and it was a show.

Post after post using as much technical jargon but empty of content like saying "endoatmospheric phase" at the same time ignoring that the Oreshnik lever leaves the upper atmosphere and all phases are endoatmospheric.

Repeat how much of a specialist he is, keep saying "actually I meant to say that..." after saying wrong like after saying "Oreshnik is nuclear" moving to "actually I said it can be technically made nuclear".

I don't know if he's an old boomer who likes to pretend think he knowledge of US missiles of the 70s is up to date, or what goes in his head, but it's exactly as you said, it's a tourist.

>I'm pretty sure I'm talking with at least 2-3 LLMs ITT

>>525502500
Oreshnik can apparently carry 36 MIRVs going at Mach 10 each. Good luck intercepting them all, especially since they're all kinetic energy penetrators so you can't even count on detonating/ruining the payload.

My friend, you already tried this, every single time someone points out at American air defense actual performance, be it Patriots, THAAD or Aegis Ashore, you keep ignoring what happened in Iraq 1993, Iraq 2003, Israel 2006, Israel 2023... and repeating vague empty platitudes we'd find a MIC salesman pitch, stuff like

At least now you found an excuse by saying "Those Iranian missiles almost certainly carried penaids - they're a pretty easy technology - by the way." why everything you said about missiles is wrong IRL.

I just wish to know why you keep doing it.

These are designed to intercept missiles during different phases of flight, and work, or fail to work, for different reasons. Against midcourse-phase interceptors, unless you do something, ballistic missile warheads present an easy target - they're travelling in a vacuum on ballistic trajectories. Luckily, it's easy to present lots of convincing-looking fake targets, as I said. The designers of these missiles have to assume that the defenses might work at least on occasion, and act accordingly.

this is only one of angle of Oreshnik and yeah ability to deleted with non nuclear strike your comanding bunkers and storage (hard to find location immune to that apart maybe Gothard tunnel) But let me ask You question
How many of them they have?
Oreshink is just a warhead section of ordinary irbm missile.
Will you really belive that each time they will tell you that it is nonnuclear it will be like that?
Pararels with yearly massive military traning before curing Covid19 in 2022 is obvious.

>>525503350
I'll explain exactly what I mean. The Oreshnik is an IRBM, and mostly rather conventional; there's no indication it deploys a glider or anything like that. You can back out the apogee, as I did earlier, from available information, since the flight time and the terminal flight path angle and range are known. The apogee might be rather high, perhaps up to 900 km. This means that, after the boost phase, the warheads and so on spend a few minutes at very high altitude, well above the atmosphere, quite unable to maneuver. They are very vulnerable in this flight phase.

Against THAAD and Patriot, penetration aids probably aren't so relevant, since they will engage incoming warheads at much lower altitudes.

Find me a post where I say HGVs can't maneuver, as I said. Do bear in mind that gliding counts as a maneuver.

As I said, you can make pre-planned or random maneuvers without being able to detect the target, or any incoming interceptors, since you'll have an inertial navigation system. It's just that you won't be able to hit moving targets.

>maneuvering reentry vehicles
They test-flew them, too. Look up AMARV. It's lost technology at this point, however, and AMARV isn't as capable as what the Chinese have now. Picrel's an AMARV test from the early 80s - it's a long-exposure photo. The AMARV itself is the streak on the left; it came in from right to left, and at some point in its flight pulled up and went level. The short streak on the right is the last stage of the Minuteman III or whatever that threw it to Kwajalein; it burnt up.

The Oreshnik follows a ballistic trajectory; it's fundamentally the same as what ICBMs do, even if it doesn't go as fast, nor achieve nearly as great a range. It can still be distinguished from an ICBM, though - for example, the Russians might avoid launching the Oreshnik from the vicinity of existing silo fields (they still have many fixed land-based missiles), or in the areas where they deploy mobile ICBM launchers. An Oreshnik launch looks different to an infrared satellite (DSP/SBIRS) than an ICBM launch, and with radar observations, you can predict its impact point.

>This weapon is not capable of nuclear warheads and if I fire it against you it is NOT the first salvo of a pre-emptive strike so please respond accordingly.
Which is why Russia made a huge stink about the F-16 transfer because those jets are capable of carrying nuclear tipped air-to-ground missiles.
Of course no one gave a shit about Russia's red lines (and really, while the protest was warranted, it was only "for the record" because no one ever talked about transferring associated missiles).

>Is an Oreshnik launch easily confused with a standard BM launch?
No.
They have an automatic transmission to the US using cold war systems, so the mutts know that a launch is on the way and what type of missile that is launched.
During every launch, the US gets a ping that Oreshniks are launched from Kapustin Yar, not ICBMs.

Yeah, that's what bothers me. I get that to some extent they all have to tell each other when they're doing questionable stuff, but if you have to effectively ask permission before using your weapon it kind of hinders its usability. Plus you know the wect is about as trustworthy as a starving rat so it feels like Russia is placing a lot of trust in "Western partners". Then again, it's worked so far (especially since it's not directly impacting the US) so maybe that's good enough.

As I said, the Russians probably send a message through a defense attache or something. Also, perhaps they deliberately conduct activities at Ashuluk so that US reconnaissance satellites can detect the preparations, or deliberately transmit orders in a somewhat insecure way.
>>
>>525504453
That would make things go south pretty fast. Also, nothing can intercept these Oreshnik warheads atm. And infrared cammed satellites observing the nuclear sites anyway.

>Will you really belive that each time they will tell you that it is nonnuclear it will be like that?
On average - yes. That's the whole point of having conventional weapon alternatives to nuclear and the decades spent on maintaining clarity and dialog on the issue between US and SU.
Of course, most of that was flushed down the shitter by Obummer, Trump (who withdrew US from INF treaty like a retard), and later Biden.
>>525504541
It's not permission. No clue how you got this conclusion.
It's me telling you "In a few minutes I will launch a missile. It is not a nuclear missile. It is not aimed at you. Dosvidania."

Shrimple, really.

Putin confirmed it, I think in the Tucker Carlson interview.
He was asked about the risk of escalation given the types of weapons involved and he responded that it is an automatic transmission.
I'm pretty sure it was Tucker because the interviewer was shocked that the only communication with these types of weapons were automatic legacy systems from the cold war.

Any rocket/missile or projectile weapon can be adapted to carry nuclear munitions. Nuclear warheads have even been fired from artillery pieces and small recoilless guns. There are even man-portable nuclear demolition charges like the SADM. Oreshnik can most certainly carry (multiple) nuclear warheads.

Next bread I might drop a Russian video about how the Russians solved some of the hypersonic missiles problems.
Namely how to communicate with an object flying inside a plasma field that blocks all radio waves.
How does the missile receive guidance?
How does it get high precision and the ability to hit within a few meters?

It depends on the mission. If you're hitting fixed targets whose position is well known, and you have good inertial navigation systems (which the Russians do), the missile can fly blind. I look forward to it, and I'll share some videos of my own, too.

like an idiot, and now you want to tell me "actually it's a system", no shit sherlock, I know it's an automate system, I'm not the one saying otherwise only to backpeddal and try to lesson others.

But it's an improvement, you went from doubling and tripling down on something that is clearly wrong like "HGv can't manouver" to only pretending you said the right thing all along :)

I don't understand this either because MIRVs aren't supposed to be that accurate. At least one of the videos shows an Oreshnik MIRV getting a direct hit on its target and igniting a big gas explosion.

True since humidity means everything

While a few early MIRV systems are not supposed to be accurate. MIRV systems where each warhead can aim independetly are the most common.

No clothes for proper cold, no central heating, no heaving systems at all in most cases and houses made to be as cold as possible, with big windows and good air circulation.

Felt more cold here than anywhere else I visited.

>>525505837
It's making something like 35ºC - 40ºC recently, it's a pain to endure, really a pain
