I think that socialism has no meaning unless it is an explicitly transitional chrysalis from which a classless society emerges, but it can't be that bad. I mean, just going from our history alone, high taxes on the wealthy and corporations alongside commensurate investment in infrastructure and subsidies... that essentially created modern America. We are STILL in many ways coasting on infrastructure we built in this era where the top marginal tax rate exceeded 80%. It's almost criminal how poorly understood this is. The white picket fences, the jobs growth, the social fabric -- all of this was buttressed by high marginal tax rates. None of it was possible without it. If we want to RETVRN to that, it follows that we should actually return to its conditions and tax the fuck out of elites to get there.

>>525740672Nah, it's a misunderstanding of what socialism is. Socialism as defined by Marx is the median point between classful and classless society. It is the point where "the people" own the means of production yet society is still stratified. Marx left "the people" undefined. It's one of the biggest holes in his philosophy and one of the biggest pain points contemporary Marxist thought has attempted to develop. Lenin, Mao, and Stalin all defined "the people" as the state -- or more specifically, the vanguard which captured the old state and was supposed to transition the power to the actual people. The way it turns out, once a violent and hierarchical group of people take control of the state, there's very little structural incentive to release that power. This is why Marxist vanguardism is now seen as the wrong way to go. Democratic socialism is the incremental version of this -- Marxism without vanguards or violent revolution. You don't have to surface people as leaders who are comfortable with coercive power or violence and instead get to focus on leveling the playing field en route a less classful society.

I genuinely prefer national socialism. Not even in a Nazi sense, just literally the sense that I would love to see our nation put the interests of it's own citizens above that of both corporations and foreign interests. But that shits never going to happen, not in my life time
