How can any Star Trek fan not like the European Union? It is the closest thing we have to the United Federation of Planets. The UFP flag is supposed to evoke the UN but it's actually the EU, the most enlightened political and economic union and civilizing force in the history of mankind.
I'm not even being sarcastic. My dad was mid level secretary of something or other in Brussels and I've been politically indoctrinated since I could walk basically. Red pill me on the EU and why it's not like the UFP or why UFP is bad.

Of course Americans don't like the EU because they prefer to push around individual countries and take their giant Arctic islands.

It's definitely turbo-autistic of me, but I hate how human-centric it is, politically, militarily, and culturally. It's space globohomo paving over the universe with Earth and its mores. Not as bad as the borg, but the borg are nevertheless meant to be a foil, confronting the UFP with its hegemonizing swarm tendencies.
