how tf does that work? how do you defend against it? seems like it fucks up your whole body. not like you can just wear headphones. even if you wore headphones the sound would come through the mics of people on your team.

i see how you're confused. you're thinking of sound as a standard pressure wave, but that's 1990s tech.

the lasers aren't for targeting, they're used to ionize the air and create a photo-acoustic plasma channel. basically, the laser heats the nitrogen in the air to create a temporary vacuum tube. this allows the infrasonic pulse to travel with zero impedance directly to the target without dissipating over distance.
