It’s not speculative buying or export controls. It wasn’t Korean silver semi-solid state batteries doing this. That’s what people were saying, that it was mostly Samsung plus speculation. It wasn’t, it was china’s CATL, responsible for 50% of global lithium ion battery production. CATL is making a next Gen sodium ion battery that is cheap and energy efficient. Nobody knows what they’re doing, now we know that brilliant new technology is probably using silver. Not a lot of silver obviously but they want silver to scale out and take the global market. Sodium ion batteries will replace lithium ion for phones, laptops, and other electronics. Eventually it will replace lithium ion batteries for cars. Samsungs silver semi solid state is likely to be used for military application because they will be expensive.
Finland already has a god tier solid state battery on the market, chinks can keep whatever slop they're cooking up, I think everyone has had enough of their garbage for one lifetime.

Those factors are all related though. China needs silver for industry, and it's used in almost every industry, not just fancy batteries and solar panels. There's been a deficit for 5+ years with no sign of stopping, so securing that supply is critical to keep China's industry working. It just so happens it could destroy the manipulated London and Chicago metals markets at the same time which is an added bonus.
