I assume they came up with no conclusive evidence for anything, so the funding for those projects ceased. There would be very little reason to fund such departaments now unless Cold War 2.0 flares up full throttle and collective paranoia leans into the supernatural again. AI is in particular the kind of wunderwaffe that will feed this paranoia. I can already see the headlines "THE CHINESE AI HYPNOTIZES US CITIZENS INTO BECOMING SLEEPER CELL AGENTS"
