How come China's LED buildings haven't kept it from struggling to break #80 in GDP and PPP per capita?

Macau being #10 shows GDP per capita is a load of crap. Try actually going there and you realize outside the casinos, its no better than a second tier city.

why don't we round up poor people and put them in camps?

You really only have to look as far as Ireland.

That said, China is geographically beautiful and its history is stupendous. The government isn't even so bad at this point; it's state capitalist, but also autocratic. I'd rather live there than, say, Iran. But ultimately I do want it to be knocked down a few pegs in the eyes of all.

>he doesn't know that China under reports its GDP as China never properly transitioned from its Soviet-era Material Product System (MPS) system of national accounts to the United Nations’ System of National Accounts (SNA) standard, where MPS accounting is only concerned with material production and services are considered costs of production and excluded by design, i.e if Soviet standards were followed bythe US national accounts they would yield a "net material product" of perhaps about 5-6 trillion dollars, over 80% lower than their official GDP

In reality, the new disney movie Zootopia 2 made more money in China than Europe, Africa, Middle East, Latin America and India combined

https://www.boxofficemojo.com/releasegroup/gr2845135365/

Europe + Africa + Middle East + Latin America + India = $360,081,292
China = $601,315,985

The same was true for the movie Avengers: End Game

40% of BMW's sales comes from China and it's 37% for Mercedes Benz. VW had 50% of its sales from China at one point. Buick has something like 80% of all it's sales going to China and that's only with 2.5% of the market share there. For Tesla, it's 35%. 35% of Apple's net sales are from China. Entire brands like Lincoln is kept alive because of China. Lego has 1000 Lego Stores worldwide but 500 Lego Stores are in China.

Over half of global electricity demand growth came from china last year.

China is #1 on most PPP lists, so that isn't true.
Box office simply isn't big in America anymore. Streaming dominates. Hard to say if streaming numbers and distribution deals are the same in China.

Tesla has probably been outdone by China's EV that it's now also trying to sell to Canada as they work out a new trade deal. BMW/Benz deals alone don't mean much given the diversity of auto products available in America, which has a heavy emphasis on SUVs and pickups.

Good point on electricity growth demand, but that alone doesn't account for GDP calculations and also helps the countries that supply China. There are also confounding variables such as infrastructural issues given that PPP per capita clearly indicates much of China is still very undeveloped.

China under reports its GDP to get WTO benefits for as long as possible. Also for PPP, since China has a mature industrial supply chain and possesses all the industrial categories in the UN's industrial classification, their PPP per capita is actually "worth more" compared to a country with the same PPP per capita but has to import more of their stuff in USD and then factor in the shipping costs and tarrifs.

Per capita consumption in China is twice as much as Mexico, one of the wealthier LATAM countries. They have the same PPP per capita but China has 3x more subway per capita than Mexico and China has higher life expectancy.

China is much higher on the global innovation index compared to Mexico even though they have similar PPP per capita.
