You have to remember that Trump got power specifically because he was claiming to be there to shake up the system as an outsider, and that was a popular message at the time BECAUSE people felt that the two parties were both failing the american people. It was more 'polite', sure, but it was the kind of polite that slow walked us into all of the problems that we now have. Trump accelerated a bunch of problems, but all he did was take the guard rails off on a bunch of shit that had been building up in the background for decades. The debt was already a problem. Healthcare and housing were already fucked. Corporations were already growing too big for the government to enforce laws against, and the rich were already too rich for the IRS to audit. All of that shit started in the decades of the democrats and republicans sharing drinks after work.
