>The number of Japanese births this year is on track to fall short of even the government’s most pessimistic forecasts, experts expect that the total number of births of Japanese babies for 2025 is likely to come in below 670,000

>That would be the lowest level since records began in 1899, and 16 years earlier than projected by government forecasts.

>Those estimates, compiled by the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research and last updated in 2023, had pointed to 749,000 Japanese babies born in 2025. The same projections had suggested the number of births would not fall below 670,000 until 2041.

>A sub-670,000 figure would even be well below the government’s most downbeat “low variant” forecasts, which predicted about 681,000 births for 2025.

So much for the "At least Japan has the highest birthrate in East Asia" weebs. At this rate of decline, they will be fighting with Taiwan/South korea for the lowest spot by 2030. Can we get TFR to below 0.5?

holy shit even as a birth rate minimalist that is worrying

Funny enough, SK and China's birthrate in recent years have been semi-stable. Japan's birthrate has been falling like a rock for the last 8 years. There's a decent chance that they surpass SK as the country with the lowest TFR by 2030.

They could go on at 0.25 TFR for centuries before the overpopulation stress would stop. Right now, all traits of the Calhoun meme are big trends in Japan. They suffer.

Sure and yet I am seeing more and more jap couples starting to have babies. More likely it stabilizes.
In the end the only thing that dooms any country is allowing foreigners to flood in. Which Japan is doing.

The data doesn't back this up. Every single year for the last 8 years have seen steeper and steeper declines. Japan's birthrate isn't just falling, it's falling faster and faster every year.

Indian immigration fixes all population abd birthrate problems. Signapore knows it.

Koreans import tons of foreign workers but we don't have 6 gorillion threads about that everyday like Nips. And both countries mostly imported workers from South East Asia
