It is also unheard of for a Catholic to approve of divorce as an idea, sure, but it is common enough here for them to approve an annulment (which erases the legitimacy of a marriage that has already ended in divorce). This has some historical precedent as well. Today it is somewhat relevant to the conditions of living in a generically protestant society where marriage is not given the respect it deserves and so a lot of Catholics end up in situations marrying people they shouldn't and then find the faith after they have already screwed everything up in their lives.
