I had a jeet for a landlord. He enticed me to the property by saying he had had short term (<3mo) renters for a while and was finally looking for a stable long term renter, which is what I was and what I wanted. 8 months later, he told me he was selling the house. He 'confided' in me that it was a surprise $600k expense from a failed business venture that he couldn't avoid, and so he had no choice but to sell the house. He made such extreme pains to characterize himself as the victim in the situation. He tried to kick me out in <30 days but I pulled the state law on him that says very specifically I have no less than 60 days if his reason for terminating the lease is to sell the house. he hated that since he had to list and show the house with me and all my shit still in it. And I learned later from my realtor that the reason he was selling was, simply, to cash buy a different house that was falling into the ocean (so he couldn't get financing on it) which he thought he could flip. I wouldn't have given a ripe shit about any of this if he'd simply said, "I'm not renewing the lease, be out by x date, sorry not sorry." But just the fact that he went out of his way to try to deceive me into thinking he was the real victim in the situation when it didn't make an ounce of difference to anything else that was going on. Pure izzat type shit. Anyways I ended up buying the house from him for dirt cheap when no other buyers materialized (I left the house as messy as possibly for all his showings), since he was in a contract crunch and needed the money by x date or else he'd lose the house he wanted to buy. And a year later, I still see contractors every day at the house he bought banging away at shit, and the house still sits at a visible slant, so I'm thinking he bit off more than he could chew and is eating shit on his flip.
