Have you ever read genre fiction? Did you ever notice that the characters in fictional stories have different unique names to differentiate between them? This is done by writers of fictional stories without them even thinking about it so they can make sure the reading audience don't confuse the characters together. This is not present in the Bible (especially the New Testament). When reading scripture, you find that there are biblical figures who have the same common name on multiple occasions which tends to happen with people involved in historical events.Examples include>At least 4 biblical figures named James (James, brother of John; James, brother of Jesus; James, son of Alphaeus)>At least 6 biblical figures named Mary (Mary, mother of Jesus; Mary Magdalene; Mary of Bethany)>At least 14 biblical figures named Simon (Simon Peter; Simeon, the prophet in the Temple)>At least 4 biblical figures named John (John the Baptist; John the Apostle; John Mark)>At least 7 biblical figures named Judas/Jude (Judas Iscariot; Jude, brother of Jesus and writer of an epistle)

>>526098417"Joshua" and "Jesus" are two different English renderings of the exact same name. (Desu the English and Latin translators did this so the retard plebs don't get confused by the Old Testament book of Joshua.)
>>526098417Mainstream secular scholarship of the Bible generally does not dispute that many Biblical figures, particularly in the gospels, are historical. Nobody with any academic credibility in the field will try to liken the Bible to genre fiction. People agree Pontius Pilate was real, most people agree Jesus was real, and many agree it is feasible Jesus was crucified (if doubting the finer details given in the gospel, particularly since the different accounts across the 4 don't line up perfectly).

>>526098417Those names have changed from the original Sumerian story of the same tale.
>>526098417Atheists view the bible as a collective work even though the old testament aka the jew testament is totally different from the New Testament. They debate all the historicity but they use the jew testament to debunk everything. There is no question that the vast majority of the jew testament fairytales are non-historical and fictional bullshit stories. I don’t know why some Christians even argue this, Protestantism in all of its forms has rotted their brains and turned them into messianic jews
>>526106518There's an enormous amount of scholarship on the New Testament, but necessarily by atheists but which to many justifies a non-devotional view of the Bible. Jesus's life is maybe the most studied piece of history in the world.
>>526108217>but necessarily*NOT necessarily, IE, there are both Christians and non Christians in textual criticism academia. Also it seems worth nothing that the early Christians did indeed choose to keep the Old Testament in their canon? Jesus justified being the Messiah by claiming to fulfill its prophecies.
