Maduro spend years consolidating the government, but now that the US has China and Russia out of there while isolating Cuba, the government has no friends and no way to really build up a resistance, or even a pretend resistance to the US.They will probably have to do a second strike, and get rid of things like the colectivos, but mitigating a civil war while showing them how much better a more free government can be (even more profitable for them) may make them less ideologically driven to die for nothing. Venezuelans not being low IQ Afgans or Iraqis is a big part of this, as in the middle east they are religiously drawn to resist, here most of the people in power are just greedy for power. This is a gamble of course and the US will likely have to follow up, but if something like Cuba topples as well, it's going to be more incentive for the government of Venezuela to change and eventually transition into having a more fair and open system.
