Germans built it so big to deal with their nazi past. Polin has 4000 m2 of exhibitions hence it is now biggest in Europe. These exhibitions are mindblowing, dedicated mostly to 1000 years of Polish Jewry history. I been there once, and highly recommend it. Even if you are not interested in Jewish history, it is still worth paying a visit for its fancy architecture.

>>526141673Not really. The last people in my family on my moms side who actually practiced judaism were my great-grandparents. My grandparents no longer continued the tradition. Half of my family comes from the Kresy, what is now western Ukraine. They were assimilated Jews who lived in the same village as Poles. Thats what allowed them to miraculously survive Holocaust, also both the Soviet occupation and German one after 1941. What saved them was that they didnt live in a shtetl, didnt wear distinctive traditional clothing, and besides Yiddish they also spoke Polish. Still, even then they eventually had to hide in the forests to make it through. After the war my family was resettled to Wroclaw, Western Poland.
