The US also didn't really lose Vietnam, they made a treaty in 1973, the Paris Peace Accords, and then withdrew because of political pressure at home and Nixon said he would support the south Vietnamese if the North violated the treaty. Watergate happened which got Nixon out and then Gerald Ford tried to secure funding to go back to Vietnam after the North violated the treaty, but the democratic congress did not allow it. It's not like the US lost militarily.
