They were all male and bred in vats. There were no females and IIRC they don't even have reproductive organs
Which means someone would have had to genetically engineer them to have gonads and then create female ones so they could start breeding, then genetically engineer them to live long enough to actually raise children

Better Call Saul had a rule where one writer was chosen each season, whose job it was to watch Breaking Bad in its entirety and thus could tell the other writers if something they wanted to do would break the show. I mean obviously they couldn't have a writer sit down and watch 700 hours of TV, but they could've hired one god damn Star Trek nerd to tell them this was stupid
Also I saw they have one of the black and white aliens from the RACISM BAD episode of TOS, forgetting that the whole point of that episode is that the two dudes were the last of their species, which had exterminated itself over mutual hatred

That's the only possibility. Also despite klingons having "short lifespans" of 80 years, jemhadar mature in 72 hours.

Star Trek was always about "in the future everyone will be their best selves, and nobody will care about all this shit we hate each other over" aka the promise of Boomer liberalism
Nobody knows how many gay or bisexual or whatever characters are on the Enterprise, because nobody gives a fuck and they're all at work. Picard's bald, it never comes up, there's a negress on Kirk's bridge and nobody brings it up because in the future it doesn't matter

This shit is the opposite of that. They even have a scene in Discovery where a character stops everyone else, on the bridge, to announce which pronouns they want to use

In theory, they could get male jemhadar, and female klingon. Similarly as with mules. To use male donkey, and female horse (mare).

Have not seen this particular show. As tried to watch one of other recent star treks, but did not liked it, and stoped after like 2 episodes.

Watched DS9 and actually liked. That ferengi side story with more developed alternative societal structure was quite nice touch.

>Watched DS9 and actually liked
DS9 is the best-written Trek imo. Enterprise is great if you like the sci-fi adventure format of TOS, and TNG of course is one of the best TV dramas made (after season 2)
>Ferengi
I think Quark might be the best character in the entire franchise

The Jemhadar are vat-grown engineered soldiers that reach physical maturity in a week and don't live much longer than 10 years. You'd still need a ton of genetic engineering just to make it possible, and why?

>recent star treks
They're all awful and clearly made by people who not only never watched Star Trek but seem to genuinely hate it. Except Lower Decks, which while dumb, is also made by people who really love Star Trek
>>
>>526169020
I don't know I haven't seen it but replicators are molecular replicators... There would literally be zero difference between the two no? Like you literally couldn't prove a difference of you mixed them up was my understanding
>>
>>526168814
>Apparently the new show starts with someone stealing food... Nigger what?
Yes, in NuTrek, there are starships but also people are starving

>>526169129
>reaffirm the underlying ethos of the show
It doesn't, though, the two underlying ethos of Trek from my perspective are 1. "n the future, all this shit that makes us miserable right now will be fixed" and 2. "Knowing the right thing to do is often hard, and there are usually compelling arguments on both sides of a moral dilemma"
NuTrek's future is generic grimdark sci-fi where everyone's miserable and there's drug addicts and organized crime everywhere, and also the correct moral position is obvious (and coincidentally the one shared by 21st century American liberals) and the only people who can oppose it are monsters who need to be killed by our heroes right away before they commit a genocide
>>
>>526169149
>You'd still need a ton of genetic engineering just to make it possible, and why?

I was about, that there would not need to make female jemhadar. In theory, it would be easier to modify sterile male to become fertile.

From other hand, as much as I remember, they were all male specie (jem hadar). But if they do not have reproductive organs, are they actually males? Remains as open question.

>They're all awful and clearly made by people who not only never watched Star Trek but seem to genuinely hate it
Sounds similar to what happened to Withcer. First season was nice. Second season not as much. Third season, seen may be one episode and stopped.

Sad trend. So much potential wasted.
>>
>>526167225
Yes, and they don't live long, plus they are born drug addicted and extremely xenophobic.
>>
>>526169162
>Like you literally couldn't prove a difference of you mixed them up was my understanding
There's an occasional thing where characters swear they can tell the difference and the other characters are clearly humoring them a bit.
In Starfleet Academy, the one character is literally stealing food as a child because he's starving. In a future that has replicators and infinite energy on tap everywhere.
>>
>>526166726
The Jem'Hatar were genetically engineered to be the warriors for the Dominion. They were "born" as adults and don't have sex.
>>
>>526169162
There's several times where characters claim to know the difference. The difference may only be that the replication is too flawless and lacks unexpected or imperfect flavors or textures. People will create custom replicatior recipies. There's also the snob/organic aspects.

Starship hydroponics have a few missions:
>researching alien plant and fungal life
>terraforming or agricultural plant genetics. Such as making algae/fungi/seed/plant payloads to support terraforming
>homegrown and flowers for the crew.

Similar, but Nu Trek doesn't have its star being a superfan and constantly fighting the "creatives" to slow down the damage
Lower Decks is the exception, though it's pretty unbearable for the first half of S1
>But if they do not have reproductive organs
I think that's in dialogue somewhere, and of course it makes no sense to have reproductive organs in your genetically-created single-sex vat-grown clone army, but I might be wrong

I think it's just another symptom of NuTrek not actually having watched any Star Trek, and just trying to steal cool-looking stuff without understanding any of it. Like in Picard S2, they thought it'd be a great retcon to have Guinan own a bar in 21stC San Francisco at #10 Forward St. WOW, THAT'S HOW 10 FORWARD GOT ITS NAME! This is because they knew that she ran the ship's bar on TNG, and that it was called 10 Forward. But they didn't know that the reason it's called 10 Forward on TNG is because it's on Deck 10 and it's the most Forward room
So now they've created this idiotic situation where a long-lived alien had a bar on Earth and then centuries later would coincidentally run a lounge on a human starship that happened to be located in the part of the ship that had the same name as the bar she had on Earth

I hate them so much man

Kek that's actually pretty interesting if they never give a definitive and it all relies entirely on people's subjective interpretation... Because it could still work with them being molecularly identical because you are actually replicating the same molecular structure every single time. It doesn't matter how many times you make the same spaghetti sauce it's never the same because the ingredients aren't homogenized. If something was exactly the same every time you would notice small differences

>Is there any time they use the replicator to make ingredients and cook for themselves or is it a digital thing where you tweak some numbers to change up the end result?
Neelix is Voyager's ship chef and cooks both from actual ingredients and replictator stock. O'brian's wife cooks, but she's a botanist who has hydroponic access.

The digital recipie thing happens in a few episodes where characters talk about how they've gone through a lot of effort to make it taste right.
>>
>>526170915
>Is there any time they use the replicator to make ingredients and cook for themselves or is it a digital thing where you tweak some numbers to change up the end result?
Yeah, often. The captain in DS9 mostly does his own cooking, and his father owns a restaurant back on Earth that uses actual fresh ingredients whenever they can get them.
Obviously if I had a box in the wall that could make literally anything I could ask for, I'd go for it a lot, but cooking is fun and I can't imagine a faster way to ruin my favorite dish than to have it exactly, literally the same every time I ordered it

>>526171211
To be fair to Lucasfilm they told Gilroy they were basically giving up on Star Wars streaming after losing billions on Filonislop, but they still gave him $400 million and full creative freedom to wrap up Andor in a satisfying way, and holy shit did he succeed even though it should've had at least another season
Funnier considering he wasn't even involved originally and just heard they were making a show with his characters, and when he called to ask what the plan was, they were going for more slop with Andor and K-2 going on wacky space adventures, so instead he pitched them an epic spy thriller with the theme of how authoritarianism inevitably creates its own destruction, from the perspectives of every kind of willing and unwilling participant in such a system, and they said "uh ok let's do your thing instead"
>>
>>526170173

Firefly was also nice sci fi show, and was only one season long.

There is risks to overstrech series, over already written script. If take Game of Thrones, then when they had books of G.Martin to follow. Then they had more of "plot backbone" to stick. In later seasons, when show advanced beyond books which was written and published, it became harder, and there was a lot of plot holes.

For some reason, good screenwriting is not as highly valued in Hollywood anymore, as it was decades ago.

40 damn years of Trek lore and they threw it out the window to make generic grimdark sci-fi that isn't even good
The one tiny consolation is they've run the franchise into the ground so deeply that nobody gives a shit anymore. >mostly made by an even mix of 1) shameless hacks trying to do fanservice without understanding anything about the franchise, and 2) people who seem genuinely angry that they're being forced to make stuff in that franchise

I think we see this in EVERYTHING now because suits are obsessed with the huge payout from the huge budget project, so they try to minimize risk by refusing anything that isn't a preexisting IP. You get a ton of writers/directors who see themselves as the next Scorcese and want tell their super special story about competitive gay sex leagues in Burma or whatever, and the only way they can get any money from anybody is if they can somehow use already existing creations. They're pissed that nobody believes in their auteur vision and do everything they can to minimize the IP they're effectively skinsuiting. Then later in turn the fans of that IP pissed that the Conan the barbarian show they were hype for is about Conan starting a maid cafe and he's only actually in the show for a total of 15 minutes.
Netflix punisher is a perfect example of this. Frank castle was basically a supporting character in his own show.

If you had ever read the bible you would know that it is cover to cover about how utterly fucked up and horrible the Jews are, and how much God himself despised them. But you haven't read it, so your opinion is useless.

Andor came as offshoot from Rouge One. And it was almost as unrelated sidestory.
Lesson might be that there is no strict need to stick to already known characters. That there can create some interesting story which lives "in parallel". Assuming that screenwriting is good.

Yes. They were all male and grown artificially in vats. There would never and could never be a hybrid.

From someone in the industry, that's basically 100% correct, though last year the model cracked. But it'll take another year or two before new stuff hits the screen.
>studios chase big payouts on big budgets
>risk must therefore be minimized, therefore everything must be 4-quadrant friendly and preferably PG-13, stick to known structure, and only use IPs with existing name recognition
>hire a bunch of idiot college kids to write it because they're cheap, put some alcoholic has-been in charge because he's cheap
>both idiot college kids and has-been are self-identified geniuses, angry that their genius is unrecognized and that they're being forced to produce slop for boomer franchises
>being either failures or children they actually have nothing compelling to say about life, and they think their personal politics are Important Messages that need to be heard
Thus you get boring slop that also serves as a grating political lecture, often layered with subtle and direct insults at actual fans of the franchise
