Do Brazilians have the right to travel and live where they want? Or are they stuck where they live? In America, nothing stops blacks from moving into a new area, and nothing stops whites from leaving after they show up. This results in a patchwork of racial enclaves across the whole country. There's broad trends you can see in blacks mostly preferring the midwest and south, and Mexicans tending to stick closer to the southern border and spreading gradually north and east from there, but the right to travel and settle where you want prevents this kind of even stratification.

Back then most whites were Iberian, with only a small number of German and Irish mercenaries. Today that population is mostly mixed with Germans, Poles, and Italians. >>526171789>>526172898The only reason many mixed Brazilians aren't considered Black is because the one drop rule works in reverse there, and in the rest of Latin America, where mixed mutts try to identify closer to Whites rather than whatever other thing there mixed with. If they considered Blackness like the US, Brazil would probably be 50 - 70% Black. In fact since, Black pride movements from the US in the 60s more Brazilians are now identifying as Black due to weaken social stigma.

There are a lot of mestizo people with no black ancestry who identify that way, but the government ignores that and just labels them as negros. Brazil would probably be 60% Black if you applied the one drop rule. Personally I think the one drop rule is bullshit and doesn’t make sense unless it’s meant to scare people away from mixing and keep the slave category fixed. I also don’t see any problem with people calling themselves white when they’re like 99% European.
