When we were young we opened most of our presents at the end of the year.When we were all old enough to fully understand that Santa was always just a lie, my parents moved the present-opening to Christmas and said things were from "Santa" so we could celebrate on the most basic, shallow level for simplicity. Oh, and my parents were always adamant that Jesus wasn't born on Dec 25, so it was always just a purely made-up holiday for us and we knew it wasn't real. My parents wanted us to get presents and have some joy and good memories, but they didn't want us to cling to Christmas like many others do.
