Who else remembers the teacher in GATE having everyone put their heads down and try to guess how many fingers they were holding up or what image was on a flash card they were holding? I tested into AG (academically gifted) in 1st Grade. They wanted to transfer me to a magnet school but my parents declined. We were removed from class and sent to a trailer with a bunch of weird stuff in it and the “AG teacher” didn’t seem very intelligent at all. I had night terrors until leaving the program in 7th Grade. I would have recurring nightmares of being trapped underground in a tunnel system, and someone/thing was chasing me. Sometimes it would catch me and I would wake up screaming, soaked in sweat and piss. Other times I dreamed that I was strapped down to a table, and there were weird people or creatures standing around that would take turns torturing me. The dreams were so bad that I trained myself to force my eyes open in order to wake myself up. Eventually, just recognizing that I was dreaming was enough, and I learned to lucid dream, so I could shift into a pleasant environment. It took a great deal of concentration, because even a hint of remembrance of the nightmare would send me back there. Usually, I would make myself fly through a clear blue sky over a pleasant field of grass and flowers. Once the night terrors stopped, I had less lucid dreams. It was mostly a defense mechanism. It’s possible they were experimenting on us.
