There are probably innumerable factors that determine someone's hobby and their dedication to it.
How much money a person spends on their hobby is determined partially by how much they can afford to spend.
>>
>>526302405
this is the thing, people with money to burn don't think twice about it. you're priced out of the market. that's the problem isnt it? not a problem for them.

The cards are better than the shitcoin because at least the card can be held in tangible reality regardless of how many mining rigs are up and running
>>
>>526302849
Anon this is extremely antisemitic
>>
>>526304315
"Mining" is the dumbest framing of that shit. You're providing support infrastructure in the hope of getting paid, instead of just getting paid for participating.
So fucking stupid. How much energy has been wasted on what was essentially a fully loaded idle?
>>
>>526304118
yeah.

my most expensive yugioh card is 1200 euros and most of my pokemon cards are from 1998-2001. they're worth a lot of money now.
>>
>>526303362
Are gen z in the room right now grandpa? Did they steal your pokimans?
>>
>>526302862
There's a huge price difference based on card condition. "Lightly played" might as well not be collected. "NM" or "Mint" jacks the price up. If it's rare and PSA 10 graded, prepare your bank account.
>>
>>526302405
>Want thing
>There are only a certain number of that thing
>people with that thing can charge alot for thing
Thing being a shiny card has little to do with its value its just supply vs demand.
>>
>>526302405
Do you complain about comic books too? Those are even dumber since you can literally just download the fucker to read it. Anything that's collectable and has a niche community around it can be exploited for a fuckton of money.
>>
>>526304380
That's the terminology those tech cultists chose, so that's what I'm calling it. It's really just digital indentured servitude if you don't have the starting capital to have a sizable chunk of holdings on the chain.
>How much energy has been wasted on what was essentially a fully loaded idle?
Bitcoin, etherium and any other sizable chain uses shitfuckloads of industrial power to run and "mine" about a small country's worth, it was the original power hog and energy cost raper before AI came along
>>
>>526302862
Not saying it's right, but sheeps pay literally 10-20x more for a mint one that some monopoly company says is a 10.
(If you took a 9 and a 10 out of their grade slabs and put them side by side you'd be hard pressed to spot the difference).

the same way you value paper as wealth and money.

Pokemon is quite possibly the most stale IP ever and I'm always baffled at how it continues to thrive, their fans really consume any slop with the name Pokemon slapped on it.

Gold and silver hold value as industrial components at least and can be used to manufacture things which can't be said about the other items mentioned in this thread so far.

>>526304899
Gold is interesting in that it has always been useful from ancient ceremonies to modern technology. It's pretty uncanny how useful gold has been to human growth outside of the monetary system.

Even unga bungas knew that metal was valuable because of the mining and refining process, but I think the original reason humans are attracted to metal, outside of its splendor, is its usefulness in tools. So if you take the time to make a copper tool and then use that copper tool to mine gold, that gold is worth more than the copper by virtue of being more rare and the silver etc. Bronze age economies were based on securing deposits of copper and tin to make bronze, so in early war economies metal would take on an association with civilization. But yeah basically every culture worshiped gold and silver and

It's just kids who liked it growing up. I'm 31 and remember pokemon being a new thing. If I was obsessed about it as a kid I would probably want to buy some in my 30'. I bought a few Lego technic sets for like $200. Will these be worth the same money in my 60'? Fuck no, eventually I will bin them because ultimately it's just plastic crap used to bring back childhood memories.
