I have traveled to NC many times for work and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I also traveled to West Palm Beach for work and it is trump time with a growing taco time underclass (which the rich have disdain for)

People in Washington are not much different than people in California or Denver even though the climates are very different. The flyover states are rural and conservative but sparsely populated.The East is more densely populated with distinct cultural groups and accents but less geographical variety. The NE cities are old and have something of a culture. A mix of big city America and colonial history. The South-East is the most distinct cultural region in the nation, with distinct food, accents, music, etc. It still retains an early frontier vibe in parts. You also get tastes of France and Spain in Louisiana and Florida. The midwest also definitely has its own unique vibe and has some old and important cities. Even the rural states in the East are more densely populated than the inland Western US. I live in the East and people rarely leave my area because it is old and there are old families with culture and traditions, but I love traveling West because its beautiful and open.
