Why does space science constantly change every decade just like climate science? Is TheScience ever really “settled”?
>Is TheScience ever really “settled”?No. The nature of the scientific apparatus is such that no claim is sacred and everything can be questioned (in theory, at least) with sufficient evidence. That said, the quality of that sufficient evidence is important. Eric Weinstein's geometric unity meme isn't a rigorous theory simply because it exists. Any new theory by definition must rest on expert consensus -- there is no way around this. It has to be reviewed by experts in the field and they must come to a consensus. Because all these experts are often prickly bitches and bastards who all have their own competing interests, priors, and possessions... anything with rigorous consensus genuinely is rigorous -- not "right," but rigorous. The point is that even if nothing is ever fully "settled," science is still the single best methodology we have for establishing the nature and characteristics of consensus reality. Scientific consensus -- and there have been metastudies on this -- beat layperson opinion and mob vibes by a dramatic margin. It's probabilistic that where citizens and science collide and consensus is established, it is more probable on orders of magnitude IN A GENERAL SENSE that science is closer to correct than citizens.
Science aint math. It can't be settled. With new data our understanding improves by that much.

>>526316932Wtf i love black holes now!!!
>>526316932The high uncertainty stuff such as "what was the early universe like?" does change every time we get new observations.Basic shit like orbital dynamics are the exact same every since we started studying it, we just add more data as we acquire it, thus our predictions get slightly better over time.
>>526316932Spehss soience is basically trying to determine the contents of a room from outside it with no way in. There's all kinds of tricks you can use to make educated guesses, but you'll never really have any idea of whats actually in it until you smash through the wall like the coolaid guy. Astrophysics is mostly just navel gazing conjecture, what useful models exist that have actually predicted anything at all are all nearly a hundred years old. Its created a field with astronomically more grifters than people actually doing work. Until we actually put a living person outside the heliosphere we'll never actually know what that entails or whats out there.
>>526317364>>526317549>>526317577>TheScience can always and will always change to fit (((our))) perceived understanding of the world around (((us))) and also conveniently fit whatever (((our))) narrative is during <current year>Sounds like gay jewish trickery to me. You’re all saying that you can never be wrong because you never fully understand something therefore your answers can just change ad infinitum. Lmao really?
>>526316932Science is iterative, it never stops because there isn’t an end to it - the process is meant to encourage going back and continuing to refine hypotheses with new experiments and observations then motivate new experiments and observations with the revised hypotheses. It just loops around.
>>526318197Yet that process has produced the device you're posting on.
>>526316932Better tech results in better understanding.
>>526318197when you mischaracterize it like that it sounds bad. when you accept that corrections happen as information increases, and that big paradigm changes are rare, it doesn't sound so bad and cant so easily be used to spread your kind of bullshit.

>>526318488Big paradigm shifts are the fun bits because it’s always a coalescence of the right people and the right tools at the right point in history for shit to get done.Geocentrism persisted for thousands of years because there was no observational evidence to prove otherwise, and then suddenly around 1600 you had guys like Kepler and Galileo and their contemporaries all come along at the right time and you had lens-making finally reach the point where the first refracting telescopes could be made and suddenly everything shifted over the space of a few decades culminating with Newton’s Principia unifying basic mechanics.Classical mechanics, optics, and electromagnetism were considered “done” by the time of the American Civil War. Then you had theorists like Planck, Einstein, Heisenberg, and Schrödinger, and experimenters like Michelson, Millikan, Rutherford, Stern, etc. come along at the right time and start finding all the problems with meshing classical physics together and all the contradictory experimental results and then over tue son of a few decades everything changed.

>>526320734yeah i get what you're saying completely. the force of the new evidence was such that rejecting it and the implications became untenable.
