North America is one of the easiest regions to defend once you control Mexico, Canada, and Greenland. There are only three choke points. After that, you can easily build up forces for further conquest. I usually push down through South America and then into Africa, since those regions are also easier to defend.

In high level Risk, the best place to stack is actually in Ukraine or Middle East. It gives you so many options for movement.

The problem with North America is that it's a bit easy to be cardblocked. It's less desireable than Europe, which is the most dominant continent to own in a typical Risk game. Usually a big army stack in Ukraine., farming cards in Asia.
