Japanesse bigfoot is called Hibagon, let that sink in.
Do they call other creatures by animal names? Okami, tanuki, inari etc. when speaking of sapient cryptids? Oni are dragon people. I've seen it alleged that crow tengu are a euphemism for Jews. What's the cryptid research scene like outside of North America, I wonder.

>>526333318>What's the cryptid research scene like outside of North America, I wonder.I'll throw in my two cents. Although we're more likely talking about giants here than yetis.Chuchuna - in ancient myths of the northern Yakuts, they are wild, humanoid male creatures of enormous stature (as tall as a giant larch tree), covered in black hair. Sometimes these creatures wear the skins of slain animals, the meat of which they eat raw (without fire). Chuchuna are armed with a simple bow, a spear, and a poor-quality iron knife. Some myths say that chuchuna are one-legged, one-eyed, one-armed, and move by leaping, faster than a deer. Yakut hunters often report seeing chuchuna running ("faster than a deer"), leaping, throwing stones, and shooting bows at people. It is believed that these wild men kidnap reindeer from camps, tying their legs with willow, and also abduct Yakut women.According to eyewitness accounts, chuchunas were often successfully shot in the past. However, a widespread superstition holds that if a chuchuna's blood ever came into contact with a hunter's clothing or hands, the hunter and his family would go mad and die within a few days. The same thing also happened if the killer took the chuchuna's knife for himself.Otherwise, all stories about these creatures are remarkably reminiscent of myths and legends about yeti. The chuchuna's supposed habitat is northern Yakutia.

>>526335653Unfortunately, no, but I know of a cryptid that lives in Lake Labynkyr – it's been mistakenly compared to the Loch Ness monster. It's known for certain that this cryptid is a man-eater; many people have disappeared, their remains later discovered in this lake.Personally, I think it could be a whole brood of catfish that are not averse to feasting on human flesh – yes, catfish can reach enormous sizes.

>>526334595Tibetans lived relatively well nearby Yeti places and kids were known to play around with Yeti infants, at least according to their books. This stopped so in the late 19th century and Americans/Brits are known in the area for stealing artifacts attributed to Yeti in the mid-20th century. Walked extremely fast in the snow and used rudimentary bows but never read about knives.>>526337243In Northwestern Mexico we call it the Mogollon Giant, our natives say animals can smell him from quite far and turn silent or run when he's nearby. Supposedly he's a good for nothing other than hunting as he doesn't know bartering nor a trade unlike the prairie Bigfoot or the Yeti, known for performance hunting (chasing an animal until it's tired) but nowadays people say he prefers fishing because all witnesses see him nearby the sea or a creek.Every tribe or people in the area has seen one except muttmericans and canadians who both deny it exists, likely due to the lumberjack and mining agenda along with being spiritually jewish.
