This seems like as good a time as any to discuss nuclear proliferation. Iran was narrowly prevented from obtaining nuclear weapons. There are nine persons on Earth with the legal ability to order the use of nuclear weapons, at least the ones which are known to exist.

The single factor which has kept nuclear weapons out of the hands of smaller countries and individuals is the difficulty in enriching uranium or plutonium. The purchase of centrifuges can be tracked, for example.

However, there are some people who believe that it is likely that someone will build a device which can independently achieve a thermonuclear reaction using a powerful Gamma burst not generated by a fission reaction.

Given this ability, does it not seem inevitable that these devices will be obtained by so-called terrorists with great ease and regularity? Why is thr government so convinced that it can't be done? Does the government really believe it can't be done, or did they simply tell the American people this lie in order to deter those who might try to construct their own devices?
