when are home PC prices coming down?
>>
what's the best brand for a laptop: lenovo, hp, msi, asus or dell?
>>
>>526373115
probably dell since they hired all the alienware guys
>>
Not anytime soon because half the parts being made for the next 2 or so years have been pre sold to AI data centers. Bubble has to pop for prices to go down but unfortunately when it does you probably will be too broke to afford them.
>>
>>526372972
2028 at the earliest
but more likely never
Peasants wont be allowed computers
you'll get a tablet that connects to the amazon cloud and pay a subscription fee for hardware

You retards aren't falling for this, right? These are posted by a single third-party seller on BestBuy's website asking huge markup on old stock (notice the 3050?) thinking some retard is going to fall for it. OP sorted from high to low to make those show up first.

MSI locks the firmware so you can't use grub as a bootloader for Linux. You can still do it, but it's pretty annoying.

All you need is an acer nitro 5 with gtx 3060 they also come with a 1650 for like 250 dollars less. They are under a grand I play everything on high but all the good shit like serious sam 2 and left for dead 2 and halo 3, skyrim, it can play on ultra. Great laptop. Great price no problems had mine for 6 years. You can also add ram but stock its pretty impressive for the price.
>>
>>526372972
You can still get a Commodore 64 for less than 1000.

Came to post this. Laptops used to be for executives and field engineers/scientists working for rich institutions.

We lived through a golden age of cheap electronics during the 2000s and 2010s.
Now the world is just correcting itself.
>>
This isn't a thing. You can get a good laptop for $1000 lol. Why the fuck would you want an i9 and a 5090 in a laptop lol
>>
This has an RTX 3050 in it for 800 bucks. Buy a 60 inch Samsung oled television and you are set. It has upgradable ram slots and the ram is like 60 bucks.

I got a ryzen 7 with 32 GB ram and a 4070 laptop for $1100 in mid 2024

even with the inflated prices, anywhere from 1.5-3k is enough to build a good PC for AAA games
if you don't play AAA, you can get away with less than 1k

>>

when China create alternative for GPUs, CPUs and RAM, unfortuntly until then it will only get worse unless the IA bubble burse and the US economy collapse with it

I wouldn't mind paying a gatekeep tax that keeps all the brownoids out if they weren't still shitting up the internet via their smartphones anyway

Why are you upgrading? I get 90ish fps with frame generation on 4060.

I just grabbed an MSI katana w 4060 i7 16DDR5 and expanded SSD to 3tb total for $400....

It just had FO:NV and skyrim on it. He tried to wipe it but left a bunch of futa model files lol. intentionally?

RAM and VGA supply will stay low for at least 2 more years according to the biggest manufacturers. Unless the AI bubble pops, these prices are only going to get worse.

I'd sign up for that instantly. It would still be full of Ruskies, SEApeople and so on, but at least it wouldn't be the worst people from those areas anymore, like you get with phones.

Even when the AI hardware become surplus, it's not attached to gaming GPUs, but instead AI co-processors using similar chips to GPUs.

It obviously will eventually. Just not voluntarily.
But excessive greed always eventually leads to violence from the masses which resets the system.
Might not be in 5 years, neither in 10, maybe not even in 20.
But the more areas of the economy start engaging in this excessive grifting, the more that end result will be accelerated.

Mostly true but those AI datacenters also have a large stock of gaming hardware too. They'll be scrambling to get rid of those when the bubble pops and they'll be perfectly fine for gamers for several more years to come. And the RAM they use is the same kind of RAM that gaming PCs use.

Server RAM uses the same basic parts as consumer RAM, but is usually built up as parity RAM. Not all motherboards support it, and a lot of game PC builders see parity as a source of latency.

>It obviously will eventually
Why? Why do you assume that the wealth, prosperity and progress that we have enjoyed for the past ~centuryish will continue? Has it never crossed your mind that maybe, these truly WERE the golden ages, and they are never coming back?

There is plenty of evidence to believe that this is the case. I'm not even saying there will be a complete societal collapse, I actually think there WILL be PCs, but there is reason to believe they might just cost a shitton and be very niche products in general, because we lose the ability to manufacture them at an economical scale. Humanity stopped producing aquaducts for thousands of years before quality drinking water became a thing. We might just stop having cheap electronics for a few hundred years. Which practically speaking, is "never".

I can attest that Lenovo sucks ass. Had one crash after only a couple years, motherboard fried itself. Called support and they said it's a known issue because they forgot to add ventilation. The fuck are they even selling us. Anyway I replaced the motherboard but they're not all compatible even with their own parts, so now I have no speakers and the USB ports don't work. Also the battery went to shit almost immediately, it has to be plugged in or the laptop dies within 10 minutes. Worst piece of shit I've ever owned. Best was Samsung, still running the same one since 2013 and it has every port from the time and a CD tray on a fucking laptop. They did good and it lasted.

>>526372972
never - the dollar keeps devaluing every year. It's called inflation - but what they never teach you is that inflation continues forever - deflation makes economist panic because the debt based economy becomes more expensive when there is deflation.

Nothing ever becomes cheaper when there is already market presence / saturation. The $5 footlong is gone. The $5 for 5 roast beefs are gone. The $200 beater car is gone. This is why they want you to invest in the stock market with your money - it feeds the debt engine and the plate spinning goes on a little longer before everything crashes out.

based oldhead rememberer. I'm no happier than the next guy about this development but we at least have the frame of reference to understand what an unusually bountiful time we'd been living in for the last 20 years or so. Relative to average lowermiddle to middle class wages electronics have been so unbelievably cheap, even during the covid chip shortages comparing to the historical norm.
