They all snatched more executive power and at times even ignored the Judicial branch. All of them used emergency as their justification. They all faced weak congressional opposition. Checks and balances only work when everyone agrees to play the game.
This is why state rights are important. Ideally, if the Feds are doing something a significant chunk of the country doesn't like, they'd be able to restrict the government's access to their resources. Democrats and Neocons alike decided to give the POTUS the ability to act virtually autonomously since the Obama years.
