Standing your ground and defensing yourself isn't necessarily toxic for a guy, but actively picking fights is toxic. The issue with all of this toxic blah blah, is that neither masculinity nor femininity is well defined, and those who do try to define it always paint one or both sexes into a corner. You end up asking "what is masculinity?" and getting the answer "not letting your emotions rule you". But then you ask "should women be ruled by their emotions?" and you get "of course not." So should women be masculine? The answer is still no. You end up with a situation where you actually don't want anyone to express anything toxic at all and the masculine/feminine parts are just smurf-words that don't mean a whole lot.
