China also open sources a lot of their best models, GLM 4.7 is virtually on par with Anthropic's jewish propietary AI model for coding, and it's free. I like dabbling in a bit of electrical DIY as well and Chinese microcontrollers are on par with brand named western ones at a fraction of the cost.
