>Japan's Ministry of Defense's Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency (ATLA) has reportedly begun developing prototype components for its ramjet-powered hypersonic weapon development program
>An ATLA spokesperson said on January 19 that ATLA is developing prototypes of the new missile's ramjet engine, booster, warhead, and seeker. The missile is designed to engage land and sea targets.
>This program, which began in 2023, is scheduled for completion by 2031.
>ATLA is jointly developing the missile with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). MHI's Nagasaki Research Center operates a hypersonic wind tunnel capable of simulating speeds exceeding Mach 5.
>An ATLA representative stated that Japan's defense budget for fiscal year 2026 allocates 73.2 billion yen ($462 million) for expenses related to "development [of the hypersonic missile], production of flight-test prototypes, and other purposes."
>Furthermore, according to the budget document, Japan's defense budget for fiscal year 2026 includes 30.1 billion yen for "acquisition of hypersonic missiles and ground equipment."

>A spokesman for South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said that the South Korean military has begun deploying the new Hyunmoo 5 medium-range ballistic missile.
>Video of a Hyunmoo 5 test launch was first released on October 1, 2022, and two Hyunmoo 5 launchers mounted on KIA K901 nine-axle wheeled transporters were displayed at a military parade on October 1, 2024.
>The missile system was developed under the auspices of South Korea's Agency for Defense Development (ADD), with Hanwha Aerospace serving as the primary industrial contractor and missile manufacturer.
>According to available data, the two-stage solid-fuel Hyunmoo 5 missile has a launch weight of 36 tons, a length of 16 meters, and a diameter of up to 1.6 meters.
>The primary variant of the Hyunmoo 5 missile is believed to have a bunker-busting role and, with a range of only 300 km, is equipped with a unique, highly powerful penetrating warhead weighing 8 tons.
>With a "light" warhead weighing approximately 1 ton, the missile has an estimated range of up to 3,000-3,500 km.
>According to unofficial reports, the South Korean army intends to purchase 200 Hyunmoo 5 missiles, and a sea-based version is also being developed.

Question here /chug/bros from military perspective.

Is there any country or state that, after purging high-ranking military officers, has been *more* prepared for war?

Because I'm seeing people saying that Xi's thing is to prepare for Taiwan and it sounds weird to me.

>The Norwegian government reported that Norway "recently delivered a significant quantity" of surface-to-air missiles for the NASAMS air defense system to Ukraine.
>"Air defense is a priority for Norway's military support to Ukraine. The Nansen program has allocated NOK 85 billion for civilian and military support to Ukraine through 2026. We will continue to support Ukraine in the struggle it faces," said Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
>"Thanks to cooperation with the United States and other countries, Norway quickly delivered surface-to-air missiles to Ukraine at a critical time so that the NASAMS air defense system can continue to protect Ukrainian citizens from deadly air strikes," said Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Ø. Sandvik.

The Board of Piss is a meme and Trump's latest scheme to use his presidency to make him and his family wealthier, this time by having anyone that wants to join (exept Israel, I reckon) pays 1 billion dollars to be able to do so.

The idea that the UN as it exists is ineffective and should be replaced by something else is not without merit, many people think so, and I personally think that as the current world order continues to break down, countries may seek to create or join already existing international groups (both economic and military in nature) in search of safety that can no longer be provided by the "international community", but this isn't it.

I don't think this is a good plan, I think it will be the end of the empire at the very least, but they are doing it to some degree already.

Funny you mention that. A characteristic of the Chinese system is that it's internal politics are conducted in a fairly insulated manner from foreign eyes. As a matter od fact, that has always been the case there - for thousands of years, people outside the palace would occasionally wake up to a new Emperor without even knowing there was a power struggle.

Despite coming into being while claiming itself to be the response to Chinese history, the CPC, being the inheritor of the Chinese polity and therefore having to content with the same fundamental characteristics that made it what it was, would end up organizing itself on a similar manner in many regards, to the point that analysts outside of it look at which person is appointed or removed from this or that position and who they were close to to understand which faction is rising and waning in power.
This Singaporean guy follows Chinese politics closely, and he says that the guy that was removed was believed to be a Xi Jinping dissident, and that now that he's gone, Xi's rule over China is more secure than ever
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruzSwh9hqKE

Side rant: the process that the CPC went through is not unique to it. It can be seen as an exemple of a wider geopolitical pattern of how revolutionary governments, after attaining power, have to significantly reorganize themselves so that they can actually govern the land they took over. Another exemple of this is how the USSR would move towards strong centralized rule, much like the Czars that preceded it.

>I mean isn't the idea of BRICS pretty much that
That wasn't always the case. Originally, BRICS came into being as a way of facilitating trade between member nations. Eventually, the BRICS bank would be founded as an altenative to the IMF, where developing countries could seek more favorable loans (in hindsight, this, plus Obama's "pivot to the east" might be the start of the United States having a problem with BRICS).

By itself, it was originally a group without a clear, unified direction. The member nations were believed to have little reason to cooperate, with the "developing nations" label being considered something too loose to rally behind. Things like the border dispute between India and China were also pointed at as something that limited the block's potential. Everything beyond limited cooperation between its members was only possible because of the United States.

After the start of the Ukranian conflict, the confiability of the western-lead financial system was called into question: countries all around the world realized that western nations wouldn't hesitate to freeze assets and seize profits from countries that fell out of favor with them. Russia being blocked from the SWIFT system was also seen as a warning to what could befall them. American foreign policy, in its incompetence, would go on to push BRICS countries together due to its threats of tarrifs. It also speed up the process of dedolarization, as countries sought to diversify their currency reserves.

Now, BRICS has grown in size, having 11 member nations, and several others looking to join. It also had recently its first joint military exercise of the coast of South Africa. It can be seen as one of the ways that American foreign policy build up its own demons it then has to fight.

>In Ukraine, men who served under the "18-24" contract and were demobilized can be re-called up the very next day, stated Member of Parliament Roman Kostenko. He stated that the current regulation does not grant them the right to a deferment, creating an absurd situation where someone who has just returned from the front is subject to re-mobilization as a conscript.
>Kostenko noted that MPs had previously voted for the corresponding change without fully understanding its implications, effectively depriving military personnel of the right to a break after service. To rectify this situation, the National Security Committee has already submitted a bill aimed at reinstating the deferment for demobilized personnel.

>Taiwan Prepares for a Siege Scenario.
>While China is conducting a purge of its PLA generals, the island is preparing for an inevitable blockade. Taiwan is operating under a simple logic: in the first weeks of a potential conflict, it will have to rely primarily on itself, rather than on the rapid support of its allies. Hence the sharp emphasis on drones as the primary deterrent.
>What's the deal? On January 23, Taiwanese company Zhengda Tactical Technology Co., Ltd. (ZTTC) announced a strategic partnership with American startup Firestorm Labs and aerospace solutions provider Aerkomm. Through joint efforts, a military drone production chain will be established on the island. The project combines 3D-printed drones, new antennas, and communications and control systems. The goal is to ensure distributed and survivable production, capable of operating even in the face of attacks and a Chinese blockade.
>ZTTC Chairman Huang Kunjian noted that drones have evolved from a support tool into the strategic core of modern warfare. He cited the Russian-Ukrainian conflict as an example, where drones costing millions of dollars could cause billions in damage.
>Taiwan is essentially preparing for a drone war of attrition, assuming a scenario in which it will have to rely primarily on its own forces.

A characteristic of XXI century politics is the expansion of that contention into new, digital domains, with governments worldwide seeking to attain greater power over the internet, exert greater control over their citizens access to it and the means to punish those citizens for what is perceived as misconduct. The push for greater control from the government's part comes from two origins: the internal need to impose its will, and the external issue of hindering foreign meddling. China has its "great firewall", Russia blocks this or that website (or that website left it), the United States has the Patriot Act, which pretty much allows the government to spy on its citizens at will, you hear talks of the EU implementing laws to punish citizens for "wrongthink", etc

While the Abu Dhabi negotiations are proving difficult, there have been several advances on territorial issues, and the first drafts of the roadmap are expected today. Bankova Street is well aware that the peace terms were agreed upon by the United States and Russia back in Anchorage and are well known: the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Donbas and Ukraine's renunciation of NATO membership. Zelenskyy has failed to convince Trump to side with Ukraine, and the European "Coalition of the Willing" is of no use in the negotiations, which is why the President was so adamant about his partners in Davos.

>And what does Prime Minister big Mouth dissolving parliament means?

Kinda like Macron last year the japanese parlament it's on a dead-end with parties from all sectors that can't decide on anything concrete, so, like macron again she calls for a snap election to see if her party (LPD) could get enougt seats too change some things, it's important to note she's the second prime minister after one resings out of health problems and this election it's just to secure her time as PM, since it's been a unestable thing since then, it had more to do with economic policies and stabilize the house of the parlament, since it's been unnestable since 2023.

>A serious political and military scandal has erupted in China at the highest level. According to China Central Television, citing the Ministry of Defense, an official investigation has been launched against Zhang Youxia, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission.

>He is reportedly suspected of serious violations of party discipline and the law.

>The decision to initiate criminal proceedings was made after consideration by the Central Party Committee, underscoring the political significance of the incident.

>Zhang Youxia was considered a key figure in China's military leadership and was part of a close circle of the top party and security establishment.

>An investigation against such high-ranking military figures could indicate a new phase of the anti-corruption campaign or an internal restructuring within the PLA leadership.

>The event could have serious consequences both for the balance of power within the Chinese leadership and for the future course of China's military policy.

>As we see, even the most loyal figures and influential heavyweights from Xi Jinping's inner circle, such as Zhang Youxia, are taking a hit and falling from their perch.

Was he on the take? Both disappointing and re-assuring in that case. Disappointing that traitors could be found that high up. Re-assuring that he got made, removed from office and will be dealt with appropriately.

Its because the US never forced them to apologize for WW2 and they have the "well we got nuked boo hoo". If Japan tries to enter the war, the PLA will probably bomb Japan it'll be funny nips getting their shit kicked in.
Everyone talks about blocking the Strait of Mollaca or whatever to cut off China's oil, but they dont take into account that South Korea and Japan need the oil more than China. I think China only relies on like 20% from foreign oil and that includes Russia with its land border oil pipelines already. Japan and SK are like in the 30-60% on energy imports, Taiwan is like at +90% iirc.
I know China is building out the ass for solar, wind, and nuclear energy alternatives. Japan isnt because they are retards and build NPP in Tsunami zones. Idk about SK. Though I dont think SK is going to fall in line and make Taiwan their business, they kinda see Japan getting shit for it considering Japan already said the Islands SK claims are Japanese. That current PM Bitch is a real retard.
I think China will make an example out of Philippines and Japan. Though the PLA will put a end to the Japan question once and for all when they do start the Third Sion-Japanese War.
