Trannies,

I randomly came across an old, famous, rolling stones article. Its the original article which led to the book Generation Kill.

I think you all would benefit from reading it.

https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/the-killer-elite-115107/

It should shed light on many things. For example, you will see real world examples of how the term "ankle biter" is used.

You will also get to see how western armies naturally go out of their way to avoid barbarity. It is in stark contrast to the barbarity you cheer for from the ukrainians.

Its a shame none of you have the attention span to get through it.

the happiness of others doesnt cost me anything.

That being said, it will take science the better part of the next hundred years to figure out how you deal with the shame of your existence. I dont think I have to worry too much about how "happy" the trannies are.
>>
Reminder that it was Jews and the Jewish-dominated and Jewish-controlled early Soviet Union in the 1930s, along with ethnic Georgians like Stalin that at best did not stop it, that intentionally committed the Holodomor against millions of ethnic Ukrainians, Russians, Kazakhs and others.

Reminder that Jews like Zelensky and Victoria Nuland are more than happy about Slavs killing each others in horrible numbers, and that they actively orchestrated that outcome. Victoria Nuland was a main character in the 2014 coup meant to set Ukraine on this horrible collision course, and she according to leaks said something like "Fuck Europe" as she was picking who to lead Ukraine in the aftermath of the 2014 coup. And Ukrainians had already by then been deeply indoctrinated, along with Jewish oligarchs like the once long-time partner of Zelensky, Ihor Kolomoisky, planting the seeds of division through bribes and murder. The prolonged war is more than fine to them. Jews, especially Bantu-spirited Jews, are more than willing to risk WW3 and nuclear war, no matter the consequences for the human species and any risks to its survival. Some Georgians and Crimean Tatars in modern times have also foolishly been willing stooges for the Jews in the plans against Ukrainians and Russians.

Reminder that Russia and Ukrainians both made foolish mistakes, often spurred on by internal Jews and the golemized and Jewified West, that made them more vulnerable to Jewish manipulation, division and conquest.

Reminder that Reddit and 4chan is controlled and owned by Jews.

1) that soldier doing a superfluous combat roll over dead ukrainians is likely the most disrespectful event in this entire war

2) you really have to harden your heart to the plight of the ukrainians after watching this. those poor fuckers were likely kidnapped off the street just days prior.

3) for the good of your soul, you should consider not gloating over dead ukies. let the trannies hold the monopoly on gloating over battlefield casualties.

would you like to discuss the similarities between ukraine supporters and trannies?

At the end of the day, a tranny is a "person" who is comfortable denying reality.

Trump was elected with a mandate to end the war in ukraine.

Despite this, europeans have made every effort to sabotage Trump's peace talks with Russia.

If a broader great power war were to break out. Europeans would be demanding we come and save them again.

The purpose of having an ally is to wage war against your enemies or prevent your enemies from waging war on you.

Europe is not capable of waging any form of war, and they are currently defenseless (and bankrupt).

When you said europe was our best allies, what did you mean by that exactly?

Moscow Tops 2025 Fuel Affordability Ranking as Price Disparities Widen

A new economic study by RIA Novosti reveals a stark divide in fuel purchasing power across the Russian Federation as the country exits 2025. While the nation grappled with an 11.3% surge in gasoline prices over the last year—significantly outpacing official inflation—wealthier regions managed to absorb the costs far better than the republic's southern periphery.

The Leaders
Moscow claimed the top spot in the affordability index. The average resident of the capital can now purchase 2,528 litres of AI-92 gasoline on a single monthly net salary. The capital is closely followed by the resource-rich northern territories:
Chukotka Autonomous Okrug: 2,463 litres
Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug: 2,436 litres
Residents in these high-income hubs can purchase more than four times the volume of fuel accessible to those at the bottom of the ranking, highlighting the correlation between the extraction economy and consumer purchasing power.

The Outsiders
The North Caucasus continues to lag significantly, burdened by a "double squeeze" of lower-than-average wages and higher-than-average pump prices due to complex logistics. The bottom three regions recorded the lowest purchasing power in the federation:
Chechnya: 640 litres
Dagestan: 612 litres
Ingushetia: 601 litres

Market Context
The data highlights severe volatility in specific regional markets. While the national average price for AI-92 rose by 11.3% in 2025, Dagestan experienced a dramatic localised spike of 24.2%. Analysts attribute the disparity to supply chain bottlenecks and the region's high dependence on external fuel deliveries, which exacerbates the impact of wholesale fluctuations on the end consumer.

German Press: EU Market Saturated with Non-Compliant Ukrainian Eggs

A developing trade controversy has gripped the European agricultural sector, as reports from Berliner Zeitung highlight a surge of Ukrainian egg imports that allegedly bypass stringent EU animal welfare standards.
According to the German publication, the continent is absorbing significant volumes of eggs produced in facilities that do not meet European housing directives—specifically regarding the use of battery cages, which are banned within the EU but remain legal in Ukraine. The influx has raised alarms regarding fair competition for local farmers who adhere to costlier free-range and barn mandates.

The Beneficiary
The report identifies the primary beneficiary of this trade imbalance as MHP (Myronivsky Hliboproduct), the agro-industrial giant controlled by Ukrainian billionaire Yuriy Kosyuk. Kosyuk, a dominant figure in the poultry sector, has consolidated his influence not only through market share but also via his proximity to the Ukrainian administration.

Political Context
The article characterises Kosyuk as a key figure within Kyiv's power structure. While previously serving as a top official under the Poroshenko administration, Kosyuk’s influence remains potent in 2025. He currently sits on President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Council for the Support of Entrepreneurship (established in June 2025), a consultative body of major business leaders, solidifying his status as a significant voice in national economic policy during the ongoing conflict.

Unsealed Files: Epstein Pushed Russian Ruble as Global Reserve Currency to Top European Official

Newly unsealed documents from the US Department of Justice have shed light on the geopolitical fixations of the late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, revealing a correspondence in which he urged European leadership to pivot toward the Russian economy.
In an email thread discovered by RIA Novosti within the massive cache of released files, Epstein explicitly advocated for the Russian currency over its Asian counterpart. "The next truly global currency should be the Russian ruble, not the Chinese yuan," Epstein wrote in a message addressed to Thorbjørn Jagland, the former Prime Minister of Norway.

The State Duma is preparing a comprehensive legislative package aimed at integrating Russia’s secondary vocational education (SPO) system with higher education institutions. According to a report by Izvestia, a new bill to be submitted by July 2026 proposes granting significant admission privileges to college graduates who have completed three years of professional work.

Key Proposals
Spearheaded by State Duma Vice-Speaker Victoria Abramchenko, the initiative seeks to prevent vocational training from being perceived as an educational "dead end." The proposed measures for qualified graduates include:
Non-Competitive Entry: Direct admission to related correspondence or part-time university programs, bypassing standard exam competitions.
Quota Integration: Potential inclusion in priority enrollment categories (similar to the existing 10% quota for specific social groups).
Bridge Programs: Provision of free university preparatory courses for vocational graduates.

Target Demographic
While the draft focuses on graduates with three years of experience, legislative discussions highlight a specific focus on those who have fulfilled "targeted training" contracts, ensuring that the benefits incentivise long-term retention in critical industries before higher education advancement.

Addressing the "OGE Gap"
The working group is also refining mechanisms for students who entered the vocational system after failing their 9th-grade exams (OGE). Following the implementation of laws in January 2026 that allowed such students to enter trade schools, deputies are now discussing simplified protocols for these students to eventually obtain a full high school diploma (attestat) alongside their professional certification, ensuring they are not permanently locked out of the university system.

Crypto Tycoon Grounded: BitRiver Founder Igor Runets Placed Under House Arrest

The unravelling of Russia’s largest crypto-mining operator took a legal turn this week as the Zamoskvoretsky District Court ordered Igor Runets, the founder and CEO of BitRiver, to be placed under house arrest until March 31, 2026.
Runets, a Stanford graduate once celebrated as a pioneer of Russia's digital economy, faces criminal charges under Article 199.2 of the Russian Criminal Code. Investigators allege he concealed corporate funds specifically to evade tax collection mechanisms. The detention, carried out on January 30 according to reports by Baza, marks a steep fall for an executive whose net worth was estimated by Bloomberg at $230 million as recently as late 2024.

The Financial Backdrop
The criminal case appears to be the culmination of a deepening liquidity crisis at BitRiver. While the company reported revenue exceeding 10 billion rubles in 2024, it has recently been besieged by creditors. Sources close to the investigation indicate the tax charges may be linked to broader financial disputes, including a $9.2 million debt owed to structures within the En+ Group.
Legal observers note that bankruptcy proceedings have been looming over BitRiver’s parent entity, with reports of a management exodus—up to 80% of top executives reportedly departed by the end of 2025—signalling systemic distress long before the tax authorities intervened.

Russia Drafts Cash Deposit Cap to Curb Money Laundering

Russia’s Finance Ministry is finalising legislation to cap monthly cash deposits via ATMs at 1 million rubles ($11,200), a move officials say is necessary to combat money laundering but which critics warn could disrupt legitimate commerce.
The draft bill, reported by the Kommersant business daily on Sunday, aims to tighten control over the "whitening" of the economy by restricting the flow of anonymous cash into the banking system. The ministry argues that the current lack of limits on ATM deposits allows funds of unclear origin to easily enter cashless circulation.
Under the proposal, which is expected to be submitted to the State Duma in the first half of 2026, the new restrictions would take effect 180 days after publication to allow lenders time to adjust their systems.
While the measure targets illicit finance, industry experts cited by Kommersant warn of collateral damage to Russia’s digital-first banking sector. Lenders with few physical branches rely heavily on ATMs for client interaction. Furthermore, analysts caution that the cap could burden law-abiding individuals handling large one-off transactions, such as the sale of vehicles or real estate, and disrupt "self-incashment" practices used by sole traders and small business owners.

Russia’s Gig Economy Becomes a Haven for Parents

For Russian workers juggling the demands of parenthood, the rigidity of traditional employment is losing its appeal. A new study by the Higher School of Economics (HSE) suggests that self-employment is becoming the preferred refuge for those prioritising family life over the corporate clock.
The research, based on data from the "Economic Behaviour of Households" monitoring project, reveals a stark demographic divergence. Russia’s "independent" workforce is not only younger and better educated than its salaried counterpart but also significantly more likely to be raising children. According to the data, 44% of self-employed Russians have minors in their care, compared with just 35% of payroll employees.
The findings indicate that the "gig" model in Russia is evolving beyond a mere survival strategy or a launchpad for youth. Instead, it offers a structural advantage—flexible hours and part-time options—that the country’s rigid labour market often fails to provide. For educated parents, the trade-off is clear: trading the security of a contract for the autonomy to manage the school run.

Kremlin Eyes Spring Crackdown on ‘Deepfake’ Campaigning

Russian authorities are preparing to tighten election laws this spring to regulate the burgeoning use of artificial intelligence in political campaigning, a move officials claim will bring transparency to the digital ballot box.
According to a report by the business daily Vedomosti, the Presidential Administration is currently soliciting proposals from various state bodies, including the Central Election Commission (CEC), with the aim of introducing a bill to the State Duma in the coming months.
While sources insist the legislation is not intended to stifle technological innovation, it seeks to impose strict rules on the deployment of generative AI. The central pillar of the proposed framework is mandatory "watermarking" or labelling of all AI-generated content used in political advertisements.
The initiative reflects a growing unease within the Russian political establishment regarding the potential for uncontrolled neural networks to disrupt the electoral process. The focus on "labelling" suggests a desire to manage, rather than ban, the tools that are increasingly defining modern propaganda.

Russia's Communists Adopt 'Primaries' Tactic for 2026 Duma Race

The Communist Party of the Russian Federation (KPRF) is set to hold preliminary voting to select candidates for the 2026 State Duma elections, a historic shift in strategy for Russia’s second-largest political party as it seeks to modernise its base.
According to a report by the business daily Vedomosti, the KPRF will implement a hybrid selection process for the first time, combining online platforms with "verified" offline voting conducted during door-to-door canvassing. The initiative marks a departure from the party’s traditional opaque selection methods and mirrors the "primaries" system long used by the ruling United Russia party.
Party officials stated the goal is to identify "left-leaning activists" and public figures outside the formal party structure who can compete in single-mandate districts. In line with current Kremlin trends prioritising the integration of military personnel into government, the KPRF slate is expected to feature combat veterans heavily. The party has reportedly identified 21 single-mandate slots for participants of the "special military operation" in Ukraine, alongside veterans of the conflicts in Afghanistan and Syria.
The candidate roster will also include traditional public sector professionals such as teachers, doctors, and engineers, as the party attempts to consolidate its standing as the primary opposition force ahead of the September 2026 parliamentary vote.

Russian Court Cements 'Scorched Earth' Policy for Dissidents

The Russian Constitutional Court has rejected an appeal by prominent opposition figures Lev Shlosberg and Boris Vishnevsky, effectively validating a legal interpretation that allows the Kremlin to blacklist citizens as "foreign agents" based on indirect contact rather than foreign funding.
The ruling, reported by Vedomosti on Monday, upholds the controversial "one handshake" doctrine. Under this provision, authorities can designate an individual as a foreign agent not for receiving money from abroad, but for falling under the "influence" of a Russian citizen who is allegedly acting in a foreign interest.
Oleg Zakharov, a lawyer analysing the decision, described the court's stance as a "scorched earth" policy intended to isolate dissidents. While the original law targeted direct ties to foreign entities, the confirmed expansion renders the "foreign agent" label a contagion that spreads through domestic social circles.
"Such a strengthening of their status as untouchables makes them increasingly nerukopozhatny [unworthy of a handshake], and communication with them toxic," Zakharov told the paper.

Russian 'Shadow Fleet' Hugs Turkish Coast to Evade Drone Threat

Russian tankers operating in the Black Sea have adopted a defensive navigation strategy, routing vessels deep within Turkish territorial waters to shield them from Ukrainian Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) attacks.
Military analyst Vladislav Shurygin highlighted the tactical shift, noting that Russian operators are effectively using the coastline of a NATO member state as a "safe zone." The move follows a sharp escalation in the maritime domain in late 2025, when Ukrainian sea drones successfully struck several vessels, including the tankers Kairos and Virat, in the open waters of Turkey’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
Maritime tracking data corroborates Shurygin’s assessment, showing that vessels such as the Jumbo and Belomor are now deviating significantly from the traditional direct route between Novorossiysk and the Bosphorus. By hugging the Turkish shore, these ships add approximately 350 miles (560 km) to their transit—increasing fuel costs and voyage time by nearly 70%—but drastically reduce the engagement window for Ukrainian drones.
The calculation is geopolitical: Russian operators assume Kyiv will not risk a diplomatic crisis with Ankara by launching kinetic strikes inside Turkish sovereign waters.

High Court Orders Potanin to Open Books in Nornickel Battle

Vladimir Potanin, Russia’s richest man, has been ordered by the High Court of England and Wales to personally identify and disclose internal corporate documents for his ongoing legal war with Rusal, dismissing his defence that he does not personally possess the data.
The ruling, reported by Vedomosti on Monday, marks a procedural victory for Rusal, the aluminium producer that holds a 26.4 per cent stake in Nornickel. Rusal is suing Mr Potanin in London, alleging that his management of the palladium giant breached a 2012 shareholder agreement, causing significant losses.
The court rejected the notion that Mr Potanin could not produce the evidence, ruling that as Nornickel’s president and "sole executive body," he has the legal right under Russian law to access any company file. This overrides Mr Potanin's previous assertions—widely reported in the UK press—that he could not provide electronic communications because he does not own a computer or smartphone and conducts business using only a basic Nokia handset.
Rusal is seeking the removal of Mr Potanin as CEO and a forced sale of a portion of his 37 per cent stake (held via Interros). The disclosure order sets the stage for a main trial now scheduled for 2027, where the future control of the mining group will be decided.

Gold and Cash Reign Supreme for Russian Savers

For Russian investors seeking shelter from economic turbulence, the last seven years have offered a stark lesson: keep it simple. According to a new report by the Association of Russian Banks (ARB), only gold and domestic cash deposits have successfully outpaced inflation since 2019, leaving equities and real estate trailing behind.
The data paints a picture of a financial landscape defined by volatility and defensive strategies. While cumulative inflation over the 2019–2025 period hit nearly 63 per cent, the price of gold in rubles surged almost fourfold, cementing its status as the premier hedge against currency depreciation.
Ruble bank deposits also delivered strong real returns, generating yields approximately double the inflation rate. This performance has been driven largely by the Central Bank of Russia’s hawkish monetary policy; with the key interest rate climbing to 21 per cent by late 2024 to curb overheating prices, savers have been rewarded with double-digit risk-free returns.
In contrast, the "traditional" growth engines of a portfolio—stocks and property—failed to preserve purchasing power. The equity market has been battered by sanctions and isolation, while the currency market (holding hard currency) proved ineffective, likely due to exchange restrictions and the dollar's fluctuation against a high-yielding ruble.

Russian Crypto Giant BitRiver on Brink of Collapse as Founder Detained

BitRiver, the US-sanctioned operator of Russia’s largest cryptocurrency mining data centres, has been placed under court supervision as it faces insolvency, a management exodus, and the house arrest of its founder.
The Moscow Arbitration Court introduced the supervision procedure—the first stage of bankruptcy—against BitRiver's parent entity, LLC "GK Fox," following a petition by a unit of En+ Group. The legal offensive by En+, the aluminium and power conglomerate founded by Oleg Deripaska, marks the end of a once-lucrative partnership that powered BitRiver’s rise in the energy-rich Siberian region.
Sources close to the dispute told Kommersant the collapse was triggered by BitRiver’s aggressive expansion strategy. The firm secured 2 billion rubles ($22 million) in equipment tenders from En+ structures in 2023 and 2024 by underbidding the market. However, a liquidity crunch reportedly hit in early 2024 after the company was forced to pay a 400 million ruble VAT bill on imports, leaving it unable to fulfil contracts or service its energy debts.
The fallout has been swift. En+ subsidiaries are currently pursuing claims totalling hundreds of millions of rubles, including a 133 million ruble penalty from En+ Sbyt and a 640 million ruble lawsuit from the Irkutsk Electric Grid Company.
The corporate distress is compounded by criminal proceedings. Igor Runets, BitRiver’s founder and CEO, was placed under house arrest by a Moscow court on January 31, charged with tax evasion. With 80% of top management having reportedly fled the firm since late 2025 and wage arrears mounting, negotiators are now scrambling to transfer the company's remaining distressed assets to new owners.

Russia to Close ‘Gold Loophole’ with Strict Export Cap

The Russian Ministry of Finance has finalised legislation to restrict the amount of gold bullion individuals can take out of the country, moving to plug a key channel for capital flight as citizens increasingly turn to precious metals to bypass currency controls.
According to Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Moiseev, the new decree will cap personal exports of bullion at 100 grams. The measure, which has already cleared interdepartmental review, is expected to come into force on September 1, 2026.
The initiative marks a shift in tactics for Russian regulators, who had previously considered a value-based limit equivalent to the standard $10,000 cash declaration threshold. However, officials opted for a weight-based restriction to simplify enforcement at customs borders, particularly within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
The crackdown follows a surge in domestic demand; ministry data reveals that Russian citizens purchased a record 50 tons of gold in 2025, much of which officials suspect was trafficked abroad to move wealth offshore. With a 100-gram bar currently trading at approximately 1.3 million rubles, the new cap effectively limits the portable wealth a traveller can carry to roughly $13,000, rendering the "gold mule" route unviable for large-scale capital expatriation.

Sanctioned Russian Star Retains Inheritance Rights to Latvian Luxury Flat

Larisa Dolina, the staunchly pro-Kremlin Russian pop star, has been blocked from selling or profiting from her luxury property in Latvia under EU sanctions, though a legal loophole will allow her to bequeath the asset to her heirs.
According to an investigation by the outlet Zhaba i Gadyuka (The Toad and The Viper), EU authorities have frozen Dolina’s 123-square-meter apartment in the coastal resort city of Jurmala. The property, located in the prestigious "Amber Residence" (Dzintaru rezidence) complex, was purchased by the singer in 2010.
Records show Dolina financed the purchase with a mortgage of 244,000 lats (€348,000)—a loan she fully repaid in 2017, long before her vocal support for the invasion of Ukraine landed her on the Brussels blacklist.
Since her designation in the EU sanctions package on December 16, 2024, the singer has been effectively barred from disposing of the asset. She is legally prohibited from selling, gifting, or renting out the apartment. However, the specific terms of the freeze grant a singular exception: while she cannot transfer the deed during her lifetime, she retains the right to transfer the property via inheritance, leaving the frozen asset to her estate.

To Save the Russian Curse, Linguists Argue, You Must Use It Less

As Russia prepares to mark World Day Against Profanity on February 3, the country’s leading philologists are offering a paradoxical defence of mat, the notoriously elaborate and taboo tier of the Russian language. Their concern is not that Russians are swearing too much out of respect for propriety, but that they are swearing too much for the sake of the language itself.
Vladimir Pakhomov, a researcher at the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Vinogradov Institute, told RIA Novosti on Monday that the "inflation" of profanity is threatening its existence. "It is obvious that there is more swearing," Pakhomov observed, noting that as taboo words migrate into everyday "white" speech, they suffer from semantic bleaching—stripping them of their unique emotional lethality.
"Linguists are now advancing the thesis that mat needs to be protected and saved," Pakhomov said. The academic argument posits that unless the lexicon is rationed and restricted to extreme circumstances, this "unique stratum of words" will degrade into mere interjections, indistinguishable from a comma or a sigh.
The call for linguistic conservation comes amidst a broader societal shift. Data from the state pollster VTsIOM in late 2025 indicated that 70% of Russians now use profanity, with the figure rising to 80% among men. While the state has responded with administrative crackdowns—including a recent high-profile case where a Moscow mother was jailed for 10 days for swearing at a bus stop—academics like Pakhomov argue that the solution lies not in prohibition, but in restoring the cultural boundaries that give the words their power.

Urals Governor Bans Drone Footage, Orders Landlords to Report Tenants to Police

Authorities in Russia’s industrial Sverdlovsk region have imposed sweeping new secrecy measures, banning the publication of imagery related to drone attacks and ordering landlords to act as informants for the police.
The decree, which came into force on February 2, 2026, prohibits residents from sharing any photos or videos of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), the aftermath of strikes, or the operation of air defence and electronic warfare systems. The ban extends to footage of military locations and critical infrastructure, such as bridges and energy facilities, which officials claim could assist "terrorists" in planning attacks.
In a move to tighten state surveillance over the private housing market, the region also introduced strict reporting requirements for the short-term rental sector. Owners of apartments rented out on a daily basis are now legally required to transmit detailed data on their tenants—including full names, photographs, and dates of stay—to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) within 24 hours of arrival.
Failure to comply with the new surveillance mandate carries fines of up to 250,000 rubles ($2,700) for legal entities, while repeat offences could lead to higher penalties. The measures reflect a growing anxiety in the Urals, a region previously considered deep in the rear but increasingly vulnerable to long-range strikes.

Russian Science Ministry Tightens Travel Rules Following Archaeologist's Arrest

The Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education (Minobrnauki) has introduced new vetting protocols for researchers travelling to Western nations, citing the risk of "politicised persecution" following the high-profile detention of a prominent archaeologist in Poland.
The directive, issued to universities and institutes in late January, mandates that all invitations from the 49 nations on Russia’s "unfriendly" list—including the EU, US, and Japan—be submitted to the ministry for a "feasibility assessment" prior to approval. The crackdown was triggered by the December 4, 2025, arrest of Alexander Butyagin, head of the State Hermitage Museum’s Ancient Archaeology sector, in Warsaw.
Butyagin was detained on an Interpol Red Notice issued by Ukraine, which accuses him of conducting illegal excavations at the ancient Greek settlement of Myrmekion in Russian-occupied Crimea. He currently faces extradition hearings in Poland, with potential charges carrying a prison sentence of up to five years for violating Ukrainian cultural heritage laws.
The chilling effect has been immediate. Sources at Moscow State University (MSU) and the Higher School of Economics (HSE) report a strategic pivot in academic mobility for the 2024–2025 period, with delegations increasingly rerouted to Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Iran.
While officials frame this shift as a diversification of partnerships, insiders suggest it is a necessity for the country's scientific nomenklatura. Many senior administrators, including university rectors who signed pro-war letters in 2022, are under personal sanctions from the US and EU. For these officials, Tehran and Riyadh—which recently waived visa requirements for Russians—offer the only accessible international platforms, regardless of whether the destination aligns with their scientific specialisation.

Putin’s Trump Card: An Energy Truce and a Digital Iron Curtain

1/2

In the Kremlin’s official narrative, Russia is a geopolitical flint: unyielding, sovereign, and marching inevitably toward the "unconditional achievement of goals." Yet, the reality on the ground is proving far more pliable.
It turns out that when Donald Fredovich—as the Russian press now drily refers to President Trump—asked Vladimir Putin to pause strikes on Ukraine’s energy grid to set the stage for talks, the Russian leader quietly acquiesced. As is now tradition, the Russian public was the last to know, learning of their own government's major strategic concessions not from the Kremlin, but from Washington and Kyiv.
Writing in Moskovsky Komsomolets, a column dripping with sarcasm notes the absurdity: "One’s own people learn about serious decisions... from the enemy side." It seems the Kremlin’s spin doctors couldn't find the words to sell an "energy truce" to a population primed for total war.
After four years of conflict, Russia’s media strategy remains a disaster. But rather than embracing transparency (glasnost), the state’s solution is to pull the digital plug. The authorities are currently obsessed with two new tools of control: the "White List" and the "National Messenger" (specifically the state-mandated app, Max).
>>
>>527574803
2/2

The intent is transparent. The "White List"—a roster of state-approved sites like Gosuslugi and domestic banks—is being stress-tested to function during a total disconnection from the global web. The calculation is cynical: if 80 per cent of Russians who rely on state services see their apps working, they won't notice that the rest of the internet has gone dark. Meanwhile, Max offers a sanitised "national messenger" populated with "trustworthy channels" and the "correct agenda."
It is a bureaucrat's dream of a sovereign intranet. But as the column warns, history suggests that trying to hermetically seal the Russian mind usually ends in collapse. "We’ve been through this before," it concludes.

Russian Small Business Embraces Cash to Evade New Tax Burden

Across Russia’s retail and dining sectors, the digital payment revolution is moving in reverse. From corner stores to cafes, merchants are increasingly steering customers away from cards and back to physical rubles, a trend driven by a collision between a struggling economy and the Kremlin’s aggressive fiscal tightening.
The resurgence of cash is a direct response to the sweeping tax overhaul that took effect on January 1, 2025. The reform dismantled the long-standing tax haven for small businesses using the "Simplified Taxation System" (USN). For the first time, entrepreneurs with annual revenues exceeding 60 million rubles ($670,000) are now forced to pay Value Added Tax (VAT), effectively slashing profit margins that were already thinned by inflation and rising acquisition fees.
In this climate, "cash only" has become the preferred strategy for what the Moskovsky Komsomolets describes as "cost optimisation"—a euphemism for under-the-table transactions that bypass the Federal Tax Service. Central Bank data underscores the scale of this retreat into the shadow economy: the volume of cash in circulation surged by 1 trillion rubles in 2025, a fivefold increase in growth compared to the previous year.
The shift also signals a rejection of the state’s flagship financial project, the "Digital Ruble." While the Central Bank promotes the central bank digital currency (CBDC) as a tool for transparency, business owners view it as an instrument of total surveillance. With the mass rollout of the digital currency reportedly delayed until mid-2026 due to technical and adoption hurdles, the humble banknote remains the primary shield for Russian commerce against the state’s fiscal reach.

Russia Drafts Law to Force Retirement of 'Zombie' Visa and Mastercard Plastics

Russian lawmakers are preparing legislation that would empower the Central Bank to mandate the expiration of Visa and Mastercard payment cards, a move designed to flush out the last remnants of the US payment giants four years after they exited the market.
Anatoly Aksakov, head of the State Duma’s financial market committee, told Parlamentskaya Gazeta on Monday that the continued use of cards with "indefinite" validity presents growing security risks. Following the suspension of operations by Visa and Mastercard in Russia in March 2022, domestic lenders unilaterally extended the expiration dates of existing cards to prevent a liquidity crisis, keeping millions of technically expired plastics in circulation via the National Payment Card System (NSPK).
"The security protocols embedded when these cards were issued are now obsolete," Aksakov said, noting that the physical chips on cards issued prior to 2022 are beginning to fail. Under the proposed measure, the Central Bank would be granted the authority to set hard termination dates for these legacy instruments, effectively rendering them useless for retail payments.
Market analysts estimate that Visa and Mastercard products still account for approximately 20% of cards in Russian wallets. The initiative is widely seen as a regulatory nudge to force the remaining holdouts onto the state-run "Mir" card system and the Fast Payment System (SBP), completing the country's transition to sovereign financial rails.

Hyundai Motor Abandons Russia Return as Buyback Option Expires

Hyundai Motor has permanently severed its manufacturing ties with Russia, allowing a two-year option to repurchase its Saint Petersburg plant to lapse on January 31, 2026. The decision marks the final exit of the South Korean automaker from a market where it was once the dominant foreign player.
The facility, which formerly produced popular models like the Solaris and Creta, was sold in January 2024 to the Russian entity AGR Automotive Group (Art-Finance) for a nominal fee of 10,000 rubles ($110).
While the deal included a clause allowing Hyundai to reclaim the asset within two years, the company has declined to exercise this right, cementing a 287 billion won ($215 million) impairment loss recorded at the time of the sale.
Industry sources in Seoul cite the prolonged war in Ukraine and the entrenchment of Western sanctions as the primary drivers for the decision. In Hyundai's absence, the St. Petersburg plant has already been repurposed; AGR is currently utilising the facility to manufacture vehicles under the local "Solaris" brand and has reportedly begun assembly trials for the Chinese automaker GAC, signalling a permanent shift in the region's supply chain away from Korean partnerships.
Hyundai confirmed it will maintain a limited presence in Russia solely to provide warranty support and service for existing vehicles.

Russia to Launch Centralised Registry for Chronic Diseases in March

Russia is set to activate a comprehensive federal database tracking citizens with chronic illnesses next month, a move officials say will streamline healthcare management, but which digital rights advocates warn could compromise patient privacy.
Starting March 1, 2026, the new "Federal Register of Persons with Separate Diseases" will consolidate medical records across 12 major diagnostic categories. In addition to the oncology, diabetes, and cardiovascular conditions cited in initial reports, the registry will crucially track mental health disorders, chronic respiratory diseases, and pregnancy outcomes.
The initiative, codified in Government Decree No. 822, integrates these records into the Unified State Health Information System (EGISZ). While lawmakers in the State Duma argue the centralized data is essential for monitoring treatment quality and ensuring the supply of life-saving drugs, the inclusion of sensitive psychiatric data has raised alarms. Under the new protocols, information regarding patients with mental disorders deemed "socially dangerous" will be accessible to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD), effectively linking medical history with law enforcement surveillance.

Medvedev's Son Elevated to Key Role in United Russia Tech Push

The ruling United Russia party has appointed Ilya Medvedev, the son of former President Dmitry Medvedev, to a senior post in its new technology council, signalling a rising profile for the younger Medvedev ahead of the 2026 parliamentary elections.
According to a party statement cited by RBC on Monday, the 30-year-old will serve as Secretary of the newly created Council for Innovative and Technological Development. In this capacity, he will coordinate the body's strategic agenda and oversee the drafting of the "technological sovereignty" section of the party's manifesto for the upcoming State Duma race.
The council will be chaired by Dmitry Bakanov, the Director General of Roscosmos. Bakanov, a former Deputy Minister of Transport who took the helm of the space agency in February 2025 following the departure of Yuri Borisov, is tasked with aligning the party’s platform with the Kremlin's industrial goals.
The appointment cements the younger Medvedev's integration into the state apparatus. Previously linked to a role at a Rostec subsidiary and digital initiatives for the occupied territories of Ukraine, his public emergence as a party ideologue suggests a concerted effort to refresh United Russia’s image with a focus on modernisation and youth engagement.

Russians Rush to Lock in State Loans Before Mortgage Loophole Closes

Russia’s property market witnessed a frantic scramble in January as households raced to secure subsidised loans before a strict new "one loan per family" rule took effect on February 1, 2026.
According to Izvestia, demand was driven by borrowers attempting to exploit a closing loophole in the popular "Family Mortgage" program. Previously, married couples could double their exposure to cheap state credit by taking out separate loans in each spouse's name. Under the new regulations, spouses are now required to act as co-borrowers on a single contract, effectively capping the subsidy at one property per household.
The rush to beat the deadline compounded an already overheated market. December 2025 saw record mortgage issuances—totalling over 1.3 trillion rubles ($14.5bn)—as buyers sought refuge in real estate amid high inflation. The frenzy reflects the widening arbitrage in Russia’s credit market: while the family program offers a fixed rate of 6 per cent, market mortgage rates have soared above 25 per cent following the Central Bank's aggressive monetary tightening.
The regulatory crackdown aims to curb speculative investment by "donor" relatives and cool a sector that the regulator fears is becoming a bubble, fueled by government largesse rather than fundamental demand.

Russia's 'Managed Cooling' Chills Sentiment in Major Cities

The Kremlin's drive to engineer a "managed cooling" of the overheated Russian economy is beginning to bite, with anxiety levels in major urban centres surging as credit tightens and growth slows.
A new report by Nezavisimaya Gazeta, citing data from the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM), reveals a stark divide in consumer sentiment. In cities with populations exceeding one million, more than one-third of residents now cite the fear of "moneylessness" (running out of funds) as a primary concern. This level of distress is nearly double that recorded in rural areas, where the impact of the Central Bank’s hawkish monetary policy is less immediately felt.
The spike in urban anxiety correlates directly with the regulator's efforts to suppress demand. With interest rates remaining at punitive levels to curb inflation, the squeeze on consumption is hitting the debt-reliant urban middle class hardest. The data suggests that the "soft landing" envisioned by technocrats—cooling activity without crashing living standards—is facing its first major stress test in the country's population hubs.

Urals Region to Merge All Mental Health Clinics into Single 'Mega-Hospital'

The Sverdlovsk region is set to finalise the total centralisation of its psychiatric services, eliminating the autonomy of the last remaining independent clinics to create a single regional super-structure.
According to the regional Ministry of Health, the consolidation will see Psychiatric Hospitals No. 3 and No. 6 in Yekaterinburg, as well as Hospital No. 7 in the industrial city of Nizhny Tagil, merged into the flagship Sverdlovsk Regional Clinical Psychiatric Hospital (SOKPB). Once the process is complete, the SOKPB will become the sole legal entity managing mental health care for the entire region of 4.3 million people.
Oleg Serdyuk, the head physician of the regional hospital, framed the merger as a step toward "equal quality" and improved accessibility. Authorities insisted that the initiative originated from the hospital staff themselves—a claim often viewed with scepticism by local observers wary of administrative pressure—and promised that the "optimisation" would not lead to the closure of physical wards or a reduction in medical beds.
This marks the final phase of a reform process that began in 2009 and accelerated in 2015, during which independent clinics in cities like Serov, Pervouralsk, and Kamensk-Uralsky were systematically absorbed by the regional centre.
